Ben,

Have a word with key_service on eBay - it's where a lot of guys here had their keys/fobs from (I purchased 2 from him at the start of the year and they work perfectly).

He should be able to advise you exactly what you need.

I have an FR TDi and it doesn't chirp when I set the alarm on or off. The chirp noise is disabled via the cars ECU by default...I think the chirp noise by default isn't allowed in the U.K. due to annoying people! It is possible to enable the chirp via Vag Com but TBH I don't like it chirping early in the morning or late at night as I don't want to annoy my neighbours! :)

Makes no difference if the chirp noise is activated or not on VAG COM my FR had a key programmed and it chirped before I enabled the chirp when locked function. I did this as I got fed up of being paranoid if i had my back turned when walking away and locking the car and not seeing the lights flash. I never wanted it on for when it unlocks as do not wanna advertise that fact and it is not needed.

How is it related to the alarm out of interest, as the alarm doesn't make that kind of sound. You wanna know if you got an alarm, put the bonnet up and lock the car after a few mins it goes off!

That's interesting Aimez that your alarm was set to chirp as car alarms haven't done that for years. Also that you say VagCom made no difference.

My car doesn't make the chirp noise and I don't want it to - I'm quite happy to see the indicators flash appropriately.

I presume the chirp sound is made by the alarm speaker and that to make the chirp it receives a different pulse of voltage than when it is fully set off. Perhaps similarly to the way a smoke detector does when the battery's on its way out. Years ago I remember car alarms that used the car's horn to beep when it was set. V annoying.

Think you have totally misunderstood. I am saying the chirp noise you hear when you enable it on VAGCOM is not the sound the alarm makes so not sure you need to have an alarm for this sound to be heard. I was also saying when I coded my key it made the noise but this was before I had the noise enabled for the lock function.

Aftermarket alarms noises annoy the hell out of me the amount or cars with Toad alarms that chirp if you walk past the bloody thing just causes unwanted attention IMO. Also at cars show with cars in a field and noise and lots of people they bleep all night so annoying!

Oh right thanks for that. Cheers for clearly putting me straight on what makes what noise and that the Vagcom enabled noise isn't the same noise as the noise the alarm makes. All the best Aimez.

Tried to find the answer to this but....

Can I reuse the eletronic button circuit from a standard key fob from a mk1 leon in a new 2 button flip key shell? I know I have to put the transponder into it but will the circuit board fit into the flip key and work ok?
