i said this before and got a bit of ribbing from gazjones but clear nail varnish works a treat to fix it, it acts as a weak glue and is easily removable when needed

Also has anyone managed to get a 2nd hand key coded to the immobiliser?

I spoke to a automotive locksmith and he said he has never managed it and that i would need to get a virgin transponder

This is the trouble i'm having... I've got a couple of 2nd hand keys now, but can only get the immobilzer to code with the original transponders.

What i'd like to know is can you buy a NEW transponder on its own then, or does it HAVE to come inside a complete new key??

Chemical Al - you're the man!

It's been bugging me for about the last two months trying to program 2nd hand key's to match my car!

Yep, have login code and Vagcom, just needed the new transponders after all!!

Thanks so much!

so then....with the login code (il hopefully get off al ;) :)) and new transponders can you then recode the keys to the car...

question is do you need new transponders for your old seat keys too....... or will they be fine??

You use the transponder out your spare, so what was your main remote key will now be your new spare :)

The old spare left without a transponder can be used to open doors, but not start the car.

What your saying is basically this:

Get virgin transponders in ALL keys...inc the key flip keys....

Then get my 4 digit SKC code from the dealer (or your new device will read it surely??)

and then do this:

Key Matching with 4-digit SKC
Updated 29 Mar. 2005

Ross-Tech is not responsible for any damage or problems that may result from following these instructions. They are to be used at your own risk.

This procedure details how to match new keys to Immobilizer-equipped VW/Audi vehicles. As of 11 Mar. 2002, VW and Audi are providing 7-digit Secret Key Codes in place of the earlier 4-digit SKC's. Keys must be coded using the new 7-digit SKC (secret key code) method unless the owner still has the correct 4-digit code.

Note: See this page for important SKC information.

Procedure for matching keys to vehicles with Immobilizer in the Instrument Cluster:
(includes many 1999+ Golf/GTI/Jetta/New Beetle/Passat, also Audi)

[Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Login - 11]
Enter zero followed by the 4-digit SKC.
For example, if your SKC is 1234, enter 01234.
[Do It!]

[Adaptation - 10]
Enter 21 in "Channel Number"
[Read]
The "Stored Value" is the number of keys currently matched.
Enter "new value" of 0
[Test]
[Save]
This clears out the old key-matchings.
Enter a "new value" corresponding to the total number of keys to be matched, including any existing keys
[Test]
[Save]

[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Switch ignition off and remove key

Insert next key to ignition and switch ignition on again
The warning light for the Immobilizer will light up for ~2 seconds, then go out
Switch ignition off and remove key

Repeat step 4 with each key until all keys have been matched.

3 button keys work well too.

hold the boot button down and the alarm will turn off and just the boot will unlock, then when the boot gets closed system will rearm and boot will lock

tested on my 54 plate ibiza FR tdi
