so whats the manufacturers reasons for fitting it then? purely noise insulation?

Noise, same reason we don't get performance panel filters/exhaust systems as standard.

And also, keeping temps on the surface of the bonnet to a minimum. Otherwise they are opening themselves up to lawsuits from people burning themselves.

Everything on the car is there for a reason, after all

Yeas & no...... everything IS there for a reason, BUT not all those reasons apply to us anymore, ie noise pollution, conservative mpg etc etc. Thats whey we're modding our cars after all. In effect we are making the most out what we have. I bet if there werent so many laws & rules in this day and age to abide by when building a car for th egeneral public the Cupra would have rolled out the factory doors a different, faster, noisier beast.

I know for a fact that not any of my cars have ever had a problem with paintwork due to prolonged use with no bonnet liner. Take Bill for instance, hes had god knows how many big turbo conversions on his Ibiza it pushes it to the max as well. And i bet his paintwork is fine. As is mine.

EDIT: In fact he's even running his turbo closer to the bonnet than we are. And i bet it gets alot hotter than ours

Yeah i see what you're saying! This old SEAT paint isn't, well, the sturdiest of paints from factory, but i would have thought if looked after (which anyone taking these off would do anyway i would have thought) then i'm sure it'll be fine

paint will have a melting/burning point the same as everything else.

the only thing that i will say is that the engine bay has still got a circulation of air throughout it preventing any sort of potential burning.

in theory, as you drive along, air is passing the underside of the engine bay which will pull heat downwards to escape underneath the car. obviously this is a different story if you leave your car running in a static position but then who leaves their engine running while static for long long periods of time?

good point bud.......im still not completely convinced it will burn the paint though. On my old rs turbo there was no protective layer and the turbo which was infact at the front of the car and alot higher up the engine got just as hot if not hotter and never left a single discolouration.

if it got hot enough i expect there would be signs, but it seems obvious by the number of people that remove the lining that the heat rising from the engine doesn't heat up the bonnet enough to cause any problems

but the bonnet definitely does get hotter without it this is undeniable

Personally if i was going to get another Cupra, i would make sure things like that were in place, but that is just my opinion

Im certainly NOT disputing anyone doing it to their car, at all

Nail on the head mate! No ones disouting that paint discolours, blisters then ultimatly burns if it gets hot. But the point is, no one i know has ever had their engine get hot enough to do that, regardless of what car or what state of tune, or the weather for that matter.

Fact is, it was put there to reduce noise and bonnet temperature. Neither of which i really care about. By removing mine, all i've done is help cool the engine bay. Which we all know is good stuff :D

thats what im trying to get my head around

by allowing the bonnet to conduct the heat from the engine, is there a positive or a negative affect? im sure a pair of bonnet vents or stamps wouldnt go a miss
