You mean the one with the porous cylinder head, weak cylinder head gaskets, sticky valves and 150bhp from 2000cc?

It was massively de tuned and under rated as standard, 150hp was factory figures, most came out of the box with more and without a turbo could be tuned to 250hp with relatively modest outlay, the cylinder head was co developed with cosworth.
The red top i had was a great engine apart from a faulty idling valve and many other manufacturers chose to use it in there cars so cant have been that bad.

except the MASSIVE fuel bills...my good friend was putting at least £25 a day in his car and he only drove round town.

Any old engine have their benefits as they were not limited to the emissions laws of today. Everyone knows that, even Jeremy Clarkson proved it on Top Gear, saying older engines are quicker than new ones.

Not slating Vauxhall (er well actually yeh i am), but its more of the image with these cars, they attract the wrong sort of crowds. Fact. Ford or VAG all the way.

At the end of the day, dan is right, cars a car, we mod our cars to compete with higher powered cars because we cannot afford an evo and the daily running costs and service costs etc. The LCR is still a very good value car for what it offers in the market now days

Totally understand Brad dude but the only reason we have LCRs is cos they have an Audi engine with Golf suspension, come on lets admit this. For me, yeh a car is a car too but you have to factor in badge kudos aswell. I honestly had no problem with SEAT badging purely cos of the above sentence, and i would know that my car had the beans under the engine if and when i needed it..etc etc.

Vauxhalls are generally driven by chavs- everyone knows this. With a Vauxhall engine and crappy handling to go with it.

I will still say, hand on heart standard/standard a LCR 225 can beat a VXR if driven well.

A few years ago when I had a saxo we did a Santa pod day against a focus owners group.

How about a similar day. Cupra/ cupra R vs Vxr day or just purely Leon vs astra.

Admittidly there are loads of chavs round my way who have 1.2 corsa's and rip out the the engine to stick a red top in and they handle like ****, and needless to say i still blow them away. Couple of corsas with C20let engines in them and they are fairly quick, but handle like a bag of **** aswell. My mates who have MK4 golf gti's call me pov spec cause i got a SEAT and cant afford the VW real thing, er sorry but i have the better spec engine in a better looking shell ;)

How can a Seat owner show badge snobbery towards Vauxhalls and Fords? Really?? I love my LCR but im not gonna try and claim it's any less chav than a VXR or an ST. It's on the same level at best.

Just cause something is rare doesn't mean it isn't chavvy. I'd question how rare the LCR is too. Fact is LCR's are getting quite old now and they can be picked up pretty cheap. Unfortunately this means they are bought by chavs, it goes with the territory.

If someone offered me a mk1 LCR or an Astra VXR id choose the astra every time, if it was my money getting spent and was forced into these two cars as my only choice then it'd be the LCR. LCR's arnt rare and plenty of chavvy people have them, chavvy people have every type of car a 'normal' person has. Its all individual preference end of the day, each to their own.

And c20xe engines are one of the all time greats

I think we shud put this discussion to bed. We are never gonna agree on everything, everyone has their own opinion. U can pick early evos up for the same price as a lcr. But i love my lcr, hus cares if thie getti. Old? Not me. If i had the money to insure a skyline r33 or a supra i would have 1 ov these but i dont. But my opinion is lcr is the best car out ther thats not jap.......apart from a new focus rs but cant afford 1 of these lol
