where as in relation to the MK2 leon it'd be a dfferent story,

I think a lot of people havent driven one and circa 240 bhp though the front wheels has always been a bit skittish... i honestly dont think it was a chassis/ geometry issue with the vxr, more the way the power is actually delivered causing loss of traction,

A MK2 Leon Cupra would destroy an Astra VXR. End of story.

In standard tune, an Astra VXR will be lucky to make its claimed bhp figures. I would have thought a 225 LCR would be reasonably close to a standard Astra VXR performance wise.

With maps and bolt ons, both will make circa 280bhp, so again, not much to separate them

For your interest, my old standard MK2 LC vs a Mk1 LCR with TBE and intake 3 years back :)

Yawn here we go again....! LCR mapped wins vs standard vxr no probs. Mapped vxr different kettle of fish, it would be close. They're advanced but don't remap as well as a Foci ST, ED30 or the Mk2 Leon Cupra if we look at main rivals etc.

I would never buy a VXR while there are Cupra mk2's out there which will map to 350 odd bhp stage 2+

Cheaper to buy an LCR and map that to be on par with mapped vxr's, or a mk2, map that to stage 2 and laugh all the way!

Oh but I do like the Remus exhausts for the VXR's. They sound the nuts. I wish the LCR could sound that good. These Astra's aren't a shocking car and I've always liked the look of the vxr's in that arden blue and red that have been modded nicely and not chavvy. Decent car, just better options out there for the money and tuning potential.

My money would be on a mk2 LC or an ED30 Golf like Damo's for the money/tuning-gain arguement..

ok my m8 has a 07 plate vxr with 37k mileage all thats been done to it is full remus exhaust, it is very quick and it shits on his friends 300Bhp focus ST, he doesnt knw if its been bluefinned or not but this car is extremley quick and imo wud be a good race with cupra r modded and a VxR

yep, wish the LCR came with a decent aftermarket exhaust as standard. The "SEAT Sport" one is total shite in comparison, all you get is a noisy drone, not a nice sporty rasp!

Sounds quick, but let him race a stage 2+ Mk2 LC [B)] ;)

Big time not a fan of the 'SEAT Sport' exhaust! :cartman:
Get my Milltek in the next month and really can't wait to see the oem one binned!

Guys don't always be caught on numbers. I went in a Astra VXR which was fully tuned, coilovers, mapped, lsd etc etc and dam it shifted because it just gripped the road like mad. Personally after driving both cars I still wouldn't swap my LCR for one. If I was at that buying circle I'd go buy a S3 which is miles better. Pricey yes but when you drive it you so have a massive smile on your face

My mate used to have a vxr with 3" TBE and Cdti conversion kit, Tophat , but standard map RR@255bhp, against my lcr stage 1 235bhp it was pretty even after 100 but up to 100 lcr had the lead. He now has a MK2 LC.

LCR stage 1 - 235bhp??

Think you had a boost leak there mate. LCR's stage 1 should be 260ish at least from phase 1 if boosting correctly.

Totally agree mate, LCR, Astra VXR, focus ST, MK1 focus RS, megane 225 are all around the same pace when standard and fully mapped up properly with all the appropriate hardware give or take a length or so depending on driver etc. They are some of the cars I class in the same category for a good comparison when all are standard and also mapped up. All can range from 270-290bhp when mapped properly

This is what happens when a Bluefinned ST with all the bolt ons met my old Leon in Stage 2+ guise (0-7seconds).

See a Stage 2+ S3 with the power with four wheel drive at 43 seconds.

The S3 topped out at 107mph, Leon 115mph :)

The fastest I ever saw a standard turbo Astra VXR go at crail was 14 odd seconds (I think). There may have been one that got in to 13's though.

thats what i thought too but logs show actual is meeting requested, low cfs , maf at 198g/s but every RR has been 235bhp even from standard stage 1 (no mods). to now TBE Decat, Fmic, Induction kit, i actually got 233bhp and less tourque than before , Just gonna whack a stage 2 revo on it see what happens.

Anyway VXR Best sounding exhaust has got to be the Piper system Its awesome.

i feel your pain dude

my LCR with revo stage1, forge007p, K&N cone filter & cat back milltek made 239bhp with 221lbsft of torque

when i got the 3" downpipe & decat done and then fired on a massive jetex cone with CAF i made less  221bhp with 236lbsft of torque

i refused to pay for the rolling road session and started investigating as to why my car makes low figures on a rolling road but performs very well on the road itself.
stillyet to find anything tho :(

2 weeks before i purchased my LCR (may 2008), i had put down a deposit on an arden blue VXR (2007 £16,000)

previous to that, id been searching for a VXR for about a year - i loved their look, loved their sex appeal, had the dreams, loved it all

but for some reason, after the deposit, my mind was telling me not to buy it
maybe it was the price, maybe it was god calling, maybe im just a p*ssy, who knows...
in the end i phoned the dealer and told them i wasnt going ahead with it (the dealer then proceeded to put down the price to £14,500! (£1500 off!!) ******.

anyways, its all in the past now....
i went searching for an alternative and found one of these seat leon cupra r's (what were these machines, has anyone ever heard of them? what are these things?)
google was my friend

i travelled north for 2 hours and found a LCR for 8 grand (2005 - purchased in may 2008)
- 40k
- no scratches, NOTHING, complete GEM!

a year later i mapped the car - £400 quid

totalling £8500

moral of the story
i now have the same power as the VXR for half the price

yes the VXR has leather and might be slightly more wank worthy, but thats nothing when uve paid half the money

thanks for reading
