clutch slave problem? Leon Cupra R 225

Basically clutch pedal has gone to the floor, pedal assembly intact (no back plate failure on pedal). Initially found some air in the system and bled it out. Clutch operation returned to normal. Then it failed again very shortly, so due to nature of fault decided to change the clutch master cylinder. Once this was done drove approx 12 miles in the car and clutch behaved itself (this includes being left overnight on 2 occasions). Went to drive the car tonight, initial clutch feel and bite normal but after approx 2 miles the clutch pedal starting going away again before going completely to the floor.

I think the clutch slave has failed, I understand this is in the gearbox on a LCR? Has anyone else had similar experience on an LCR.

Iv got the exact same problem on my lcs, although i havent lost the pedal all together. My bite point has moved to half way as oppose to its usual right at the top. On inspection i found that there was clutch fluid all over the bell housing so iv had the problem diagnosed from my mate at veedubz as the slave cylinder, which is inside the gearbox, and is apparently a nightmare on the 6 speed. Its recommended that due to the nature of the work you replace also the clutch, dont let the prices people tell you scare you, a couple of threads on here estimate a grand to resolve the problem. I today have had a quote of £91 for a tt quattro clutch, £40` each for master and slave and £180 plus vat for fitting, £383 all in. Not bad at half the price eh

By the sounds of it I will probably get the gearbox removed and see if the slave has leaked out, if not then will probably just change to slave (car has only covered 55k miles). I do work at a garage so this makes life easier, is the 6 speed really that bad to get out? I'll have to get hold of the working instructions (if available).

Price wise I am not worried as I know several factors plus TPS are normally quite competitive.

my mate at veedubs could rebuild a 1.8t with his eyes closed and a sandwich in one hand, and he says there a chew mate. Im no mechanic myself but i value his opinion, iv seen alot of show cars they produce, audi rs4 engine and 4x4 running gear in polos, which has gotta be hard so if he says its a chew, it is, but inevitably its gotta be done mate so you can get the power down on the tarmac

Its not that difficult to get them out, easier than a TT as you aint got a TX box hanging off the back of them, just a heavy old lump.

Is there anything specific, or just because they are heavy and therefore awkward to reposition etc?

Is it a common failure at this mileage?

I had same prob recently, there were leaking seals from clutch housing etc which were changed as well as new clutch and slave cyclinder. I got stumped for a grand though by Audi as I needed the car fixed asap

Had the same recently, thought it was just the master cylinder so replaced that, was bleeding the system and it went again
Turned out to be slave cylinder, As said bang a new clutch in while ur at it

I thought i had this problem but under inspection my fliud was leaking from here

just needed the tiny rubber o-ring inside pushing back on easy fix.
Check yours just in case its that.

Not that lucky I am afraid.

One of the techs at in the workshop had a look at it today and found clutch/brake fluid pissing out of the bell housing. Once the gearbox was removed (only took about 1 1/2 hours). Found that I need a new slave (release bearing), clutch kit and also flywheel! Sourced the parts for reasonable £££, flywheel was £211+vat.

So hopefully tomorrow my car should be repaired and back on the road!

Sorry to revive an old thread, but where in the engine bay is this pipe? A bigger overall photo / diagram would be appriciated as I have a leak somewhere and this could be it... but can't see anything with heatshields and pipes all over the shop...

Hi there, I am no mechanic nor versed in motors, but I am an engineer and my younger brothers Cupra R 1.8T (2003) seems to be leaking right from there (red arrow in your picture). He has had to change the wheeldrive twice in 3 years, and yesterday evening they finished installing the new one, but they found that it was leaking from there, they dissasembled it and thought to find the o-ring but it turns out ... there was no "donut" type o-ring but some kind gum cylinder, which incidentally they LOST ... and now they can´t find a replacement (and they are driving me nuts about it).

it appears this "cylinder" o-ring was installed in the pipe line, and they can´t find it anywhere, can anyone help??? can it be bought anywhere?

Hey, I replaced the whole bleeder valve as I couldn't even find the O ring you mentioned in your earlier post. I had the exact same problem as you.

I bought the bleeder valve and an o ring seperate got a mate of mine to fit it all and bleed the clutch, everything seemed perfect for about a week now my clutch has gone sticky again and I noticed it is leaking from that same spot still. I'm wondering which side you placed the o ring?

Also this morning it was so bad it went into first then clutch was stuck to the floor to the point I had to turn the car off to lift it up and take it out of gear!

I am trying to obtain the horseshoe clip that fits on the clutch master cylinder feed pipe ... I have been told I will have to buy complete feeder assembly .... does anyone have any ideas or suggestions ? Seat Leon Cupra 1.8 turbo.
