Hi guys , on the weekend i noticed a significant loss in performance with my car , no surprises there given the history [:@]
but its accompanied with a clunk , basically if i do a spirited burst you hear a clonk coming as the revs die , its not a suspension or something loose clunk its to do with the engine.

When i parked up i lifted the bonnet to see where this was coming from , couldnt hear anything on idle so got my girlfreind to blip the throttle a couple of times (max 2.5k revs) basically if you stand at the front of the car the noise sounds like its coming from around the dv region ( standard on my car) the noise sounds like 2 faces coming into contact with each other , like a piston spring loaded then released and hitting another surface , like a non metalic clunk , similar to the noise the piston used to make on the 007 forge unit when i serviced it to check the vacum.
sorry but noises are hard to describe.

any one else noticed this noise?.

on the sound clip the clunk is when the revs die down , sorry for the idiot talking

I have exactly the same noise. Never had a problem with the car and it runs fine. My cupra is tuned and i have the latest OEM DV...i had forge dv also, and the noise was still there, so it can`t be the dump valve...If the dealer discovers where the noise is coming from, please share the solution with us. :)

Just tried listening again (this time hungover) and I still cant hear a clunk. All I can hear is the tickety TFSi engine and fuel pump.

dont think so mate car was only blipped lightly and noise is only there when revs die right off.
you can hear it on the move as well from inside the car so its quite loud.

Just going by the video thought maybe its where the engine moves as you accelerate and as the revs die comes back down?

Is it a clunk or a pop noise?

I can hear a quiet thud as the revs drop, but it doesn't sound as if it's anything internal. I doubt it will be the DV as I wouldn't expect it to open or close unless it's under -+ boost and you can't make it boost by just revving it.

Does the engine move a lot, it could be an iffy mount, or it could be something like a pipe or cover that has worked loose and is thudding against the engine as it moves. Exhaust mounts and downpipe mounts might be worth inspecting too, as they may thud if it's moved out of position

However everything else sounds it's tappity normal self.

If you know someone with VAG COM, might be worth doing an engine scan, if it's something internal (which I doubt) the knock sensors will probably of picked it up.

the video probably doesnt do the noise justice , the thud that zboyd hears is the noise , its a lot louder than the video portrays.

not worried about the ticking so much accepted the noisy engine but its more the thud.
i know its not the dump valve , not sure on loose mounts ect , will take it in to the dealers tonight on way home , hopefully just something loose.

i have vag com , no faults are logged.
if you can point me in the direction of logs to record that would be a great help :)

The fact you've got no knock faults in VAG COM is hopefully a good sign it's nothing internal. The ticking is normal, that's just the various pumps etc, noisy beggars! Nothing specific to log in this situation really, just a basic engine fault scan would be enough.

My best guess is something has worked loose and is thudding against the engine as it moves back to it's idle resting position.

Keep us informed though because it's something we may all need to check. :)

well thought i would miss the dealers this time and have a look my self , lifted the engine cover slightly and my mate revved it for me , i could hear and feel the "thud" but could not really see signs of anything wrong.

so i thought i would take the whole cover off , again couldnt see anything wrong , but i did have a new grren panel filter fitted a couple of weeks ago , so took it out and swapped it back for my standard filter and viola , noise gone.

very strange.
will ask JKM about it.
