Thanks, do you mean the washer or the plug should be replaced? ...or both?

Good to know! Saves me a job!
Had a look at that site...

I was initially looking on carparts4less.co.uk and prices were:
Oil filter (Bosch - pretty good as far as I'm aware?) for £3
Pollen filter (Hengst - never heard of them) for £3.84
Fuel filter (Hengst) - £12.90

So £19.74 - UFI ones plus postage are £32.42

Are they worth the extra? If they are I'll happily pay it, just wouldn't bother if they aren't really any different.
Thanks all for the info, cleared it up for me!

Dan

i would just go for the Ufi seat Oem gear imop and you may find it cheaper at seat due to no postage:)
but i would pick Bosch as they use to supply the filters ect, i did pick up a Bosch fuel filter off ebay for the Fr (ARL) a while back for £16 posted same seller now sells them for £25, that's after i bought the UFI Fuel filter,
when you do get the Fuel/oil filters make sure you have the seals as they need changing as well.
have you had the Pollen filter out yet? as when i changed mine the clips broke due to never removed (think that filter was never changed as well) i got them off ebay can post link if that happens i never did check seat on clips and price.

How new is that info Muttley? I've been seeing a lot of info popping up about oil changes and that leaving them for like 20,000 miles is actually a lot better for the engine now. I think it's something to do with the stages the oil goes through in the engine and also new oil can wash the protection off at first till it's bedded in as it were. Who knows for sure though, there are some factualish looking things around but I'm still out on that. Maybe I'll do mine at 15,000 lol

I've actually no idea where the closest seat dealership is! there is a VW which preseumably will do all the same stuff though?
Nope, never had the pollen filter out, I'll see how simple it is when I get around to it and give you a shout if I have trouble with clips!

Thanks for your help,
Dan

dead easy to get the Pollen filter out just them 2 Nylon fastenings can break easy small fix though, it is fitting the cover back in that can be a bit tricky you will soon find out :D

Would VW dealer not do the same stuff regards to filters etc due to it being the same engine as the mk4 golf GTTDI?
My local Seat dealer is 15 miles away, and frankly I can't be arsed with that haha.

Haha, I'll be uber careful.. until that moment when something doesn't undo as it's supposed to, at which point I'll no doubt try and fix everything with a hammer.

The plug and its captive washer are a single replacement part, and all Seat dealers should carry them as they should replace them on every oil change they do. Ican't remember how much it cost me when I bought one less than a year ago, but it was something like £1.50. More than £1, less then £2 anyway.

Not brand new. Collected from Seat docs and Haynes manuals.

If the manufacturer says change at 10K, then you must change at 10K or earlier. the oil becomes less and less effective at lubricating due to the heat and mechanical stress breaking down the long-chain molecules.
