hello i done a search but nuffink!! right to the point i got a ibiza 2001 cupra R and the problem is:

The brake goes soft when i brake but when i pump it up and it goes hard and it brakes like normal after going down the road it does the same thing?

but when im parked up i done the pump the pedel while engine is off and it goes hard, then i keep my foot down on the pedel and turn the engine on and it goes down a little bit like any other car! and the thing is the brake stays good for ages but as soon as the cars driven it goes soft and you got to pump it up?

would i need to bleed the brakes?
m/c failed??

if any would could help me it would be a great help cheers dan

he means when bleeding use a system thats forces the brake fluid through, is a pressure system and not by pressing the brake peddal.

check over all the pipes to do with the brakes. - in particular check the state of the vacum pipe for the master cylinder.

if you have engine off, and pump the pedal it goes hard yea? if you keep pressure on the pedal does it sink slowly?

master cylinder seal likely unless there is a physical leak

ibizacupra the pedel goes hard! and if i keep pressure on the pedal it dose sink a little bit but then stops and it holds it pressure and doesnt go down any more?

its awkward access but not technically hard.
pressure bleed again... they can be a 'mare sometimes.

worth a go vs the effort to change the m/c

i think whats happened here has the previous owner been messing with the brakes as this sounds like the problem i have, i took both rear calipers off to refirb them, put a glove over the resevoir so it would cause a vacuum and the fluid would not leak out, but over night when the calipers were drying the glove split letting all the fluid leak out letting air into the system and into the abs system, now ive run the pump for ten seconds on vag com and bled the brakes till no air is in the system but still have the symtoms you describe, apparently the abs is a pain to bleed, im seriously thinkin to give it to a garage soon!!! quick question does the cupra have abs on the rear aswell?

Hi SEATCOOBER no i havent but i had it pressure bleed and its still got the same problem so its the m/c thats gone. so ive drained all the fluided and getting my brembos repainted and new brake pads all round with braided hoses all round. so when thats all done i will change the m/c and get it pressure bleed...

abs bleed using vagcom... problem solved.

Procedure for Bleeding the ABS Brake Pump on VW Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Audi TT:
[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 001
[Go!]
This will trigger the ABS pump to turn on for about 10 seconds. You should hear the fairly loud pump clicking during this time.
Click the [Done, Go Back] button and you're all set.

is that it?
do you do this after, before or during a general bleed?
do you need any nipples open when you do this?

In the past i've pressure bled the system and then run through the vagcom abs bleed procedure. Beware though, you will need 2L of brake fluid and a spare pair of hands.
