ive got a full blue flame system with downpipe and race cat, and i have to say ive had no problems with it, and i havent noticed any signs of rust. and cant say ive noticed that it magnetic, surely when they weld it could cause it to go magnetic?....well i dunno might have to go check if metal sticks to it then lol

if you process a 304 stainless steel, rolling it, welding it, it will get to be slightly magnetic. does'nt mean its not stainless steel

Interesting. I've got one of those telescopic gadgets with a magnet on the end for picking up dropped bolts, spanners etc. It's quite a strong magnet.

I've just checked my BlueFlame system all the way through from Downpipe to tips.

The only parts that show any signs whatsoever of being magnetic are where the tips have been rolled - and there's only a very faint attraction on them too.

304 is a proper austenitic (and therefore not magnetic) stainless steel, this'll be what decent exhausts are made from. Well, the straight bits anyway, if they have their own bender, the bends will probably be 304 too, if not, the bends will most likely be 316 ("Dairy Grade")

Ferrtic stainless are all the grades starting with 4XX. Just because it's ferritic, doesn't mean that it's "bad" quality, just not as "good" as a full austenitic one.

Get what you pay for though. 316 Mandrel Bends in 2.5" are around £5-10 each, and they're GOOD prices (well, so Saul tells me ;-) )

If it's magnetic around the welds, they've probably used the wrong filler (welding rods). Should be 308 on 304 (from memory)

spoken like a true metallurgist lol, i use S/S every day of the week being a welding inspector and Feel is right in what he says, another cause would be in they've been bending or using carbon steel for bog standard exhausts then you switch to your stainless steel pipe which can give some carbon contamination moving onto the stainless, but that should be pretty minimal,i'd definitely check with blueflame though as to what your exhaust is supposed to be made from.A downside if they're using ferritic S/S is they are more susceptible to cracking what with having a higher carbon content therefore making the material more brittle, hope its all sorted as have my name down for a system:blink:
