Model Year 24/25 V1 or V2 facelift spec

Hi all

I'm new here so hopefully this isn't already answered as I can't find it from searching...

I'm looking to change up from my A class hatchback to an SUV type of thing and having seen the Formentor on 'Day of the Jackal' I went for a test drive and it's firmly on my list. Such a beautiful car to look at and sit in.

There are a couple of facelift V1 automatic 150PS available in the Christmas promotion for around £28k brand new, but I think I'm going to need the V2, and the only one I can see at the reduced price is an ugly grey rather than the lovely magnetic grey.

I understand that the facelift V1 model no longer has keyless entry which I understand was included on the previous model, and whilst not a deal breaker it's a big issue. And I don't want the previous model as the unlit touch controls would drive me potty.

I also understand you have to go to the V2 for a reversing camera, which seems a bit tight of cupra given the lower seating position than your average suv.

Do any owners have any comments on the above?

Many thanks in advance

I've a V2, non face lift.

The keyless isn't full keyless, you have to touch the door handle to lock it, it doesn't lock itself when you walk away.

The back-lit controls for temperature and volume I find to be a non issue. It's climate control so there shouldn't be any need to adjust the temperature but a lot of people don't understand that and constantly fiddle with the temperature. I don't ever use the volume slider, I use the steering wheel control.

When I bought I could have had a face lift and a non facelift. The facelift wasn't worth the money but I wouldn't have considered the v1.

Thanks for the comment.

My mercedes needs a touch on the handle to lock it, but it's certainly keyless. I much prefer it that way otherwise I wouldn't trust it to lock.

I think the V2 facelift has some upgrades on the previous version - start stop button on the wheel for example. I quite fancy the VZ1/2 fit the power bump, but the list price has gone over 40k which would cost me an extra £410 (at least - Rachel from accounts is coming after drivers next) a year in tax.

The Cupra is the first keyless car we've had where the car doesn't lock when you walk away, so my experience has been the opposite I have to remember to 'lock' it and I've 15 years of walking away and not thinking about it. At least the app allows me to check and if I need to lock from the phone I can. My wife's 1 series has the best system I have seen, unlocks as you approach, locks as you walk off and if you want you can set it to operate off handle touch or key or any combination you want depending on how high a crime area the owner lives in.

If you're looking at V2 v V2, yeah the facelift has supersportswheel AND power tailgate and loses the leather. The face lift (and the other VAG cars that got a polish) has advantages but they weren't enough to sell to me. I belive the face lift gets the EVO2 tsi.

I briefly considered the 190 and 245 but we never get to use the 128 properly and the extra in the monthly and the VED just didn't make sense.

Taxes are going up for all of us, possibly quite a bit, the IFS have been saying for a long time that politicians haven't been straight for a long time about the choices we face and the public won't accept the cuts needed to keep taxes low.

My wife ran a mk1 GLA a few years ago and I don't think you'd regret a Cupra which ever model you buy, the only advice I give to everyone is that because of the touchscreen you really need to spend a good hour setting it up. Get it right and you control most things off the steering wheel, other bits you can access from the touch screen it's a question of working out what you use most. The heated seats for example 'learn' so after a week they will turn on and off without you needing to do anything. A long press on voice control takes you to siri or whatever, so I rarely even use the car play screen.

Good info thanks. I'll come back for advice if and when we get one

Been looking more at the spec sheet today, so grateful if you could answer the following

Why is android auto not wireless, and is this something that could sort with a software upgrade?

What is the difference between 'smart wraparound interior lighting' on the V2 and 'side assist blind spot monitor' on higher models?

And why have Cupra priced the VZ1 at £40,680? Given there are always discounts available, why not price it at £39,999 and give smaller discounts so that they don't exclude as large number of buyers who don't fancy paying £600 a year in road tax?!

Can't say 100% for sure but wireless runs off wifi and it could be compatibility issue, not sure if it's a software upgrade or hardware.

On the BSM, on my car the light bar runs across the dash in into the doors. When I open them up the light bar turns red, as a warning to other vehicles in the dark that the door is open. I suspect that the same bar is used for blind spot monitoring.

I agree about the pricing. They could have dropped a piece of kit but then again there is no sign the 40k threshold will be moved so they have to bite the bullet on breaking 40k sometime.

You need to be careful on the car tax as a friend of mine bought a Tiguan new and it was discounted by the dealers just under the 40K tax threshold and all was good until it came to tax the car in 12 months of him having the car, he was charged the full luxury car tax as the government go from the recommended retail price of the car and not what he paid. he did go back to the dealers but sadly the sales person that told him that he would no longer have to pay the full luxury car tax no longer works for them, he even sent many letter to the government and different department arguing his case and they have not budged, so in hind sight if the car is over 40K retail you will be paying for the luxury car tax.

Yeah that was kind of where I was going with my comment. Car dealers are known for being economical with the truth, but should make a point of noting which of their cars are over the threshold. Cupra to be fair are quite clear in the brochure that the V3 eTSI and above will attract the extra £410 a year in tax

Be aware that even if a car’s list price is below £40k at time of ordering it, it’s the list price at date of first registration that determines whether or not the enhanced rate of VED is payable for five years from year 2. So if a person orders a car with a list price that’s below £40k, it will attract the enhanced VED rate if manufacturer price increases pushes the list price over £40k before it’s first registered.

It's always been clear that VED is based on the list price. It's never been based on the sales price.

Fair point. When I had a Tiguan PHEV on order during covid that never got built, the forums were full of people freaking out because VW were sticking by the quoted price but the list kept climbing.
