Black Smoke

Hi All

Recently my car has been kicking out loads of black smoke from the exhaust.

Is this a sign of the head gasket goin? Or just burning loads of oil up?

Can any1 help me with what mite be causing this?

IIRC
Blue = oil burning
white = running lean
black = over fueling
and IIRC
on your exhaust tip it should have a really dark grey/black tinge to it, not black soot

i think im over fuelling alot. but car is not picking it up. just throwing it out the back.

mine was due to a leaky breather hose. Might be a bit different as urs will be a 20vt. Sorry, i'm not really a lot of help am I

its all good mate dont worry. i think my dv might be letting in too much air and causing over fueling after the maf.

yea mine is kciking out loads of smoke, and its turning the ends of my tailpipes a black colour

Is this a massive problem? Or is it just a case of it taking up more fuel than it should?

mine is not massive. if you are burning too much fuel then its never really a good thing. would try and get to the bottom of the situation. like i have been doing for ages. lol

taking it to a garage saturday for hime to have a look at
could it end up being a expensive job?

i heard it mite be down to a dirty air filter
it this true?

loads of things mate. i wouldnt have a clue. if you recon air filter then buy some brake cleaner and give it a blast with that. take off the car first though. and then some carb cleaner, worked a treat on mine

its only a sugesstion sumone told me a work 2nite that it could be
i ll have a mechaic look at it an see if he can sort it

has this happened to any1 elses car? and how did you sort it out?

check plugs. ht leads, filter and housing you could clean. just the general stuff for now. check your oil consumption as well

i spend sh*t loads on mine everymonth and now i have smoke. its confussing, i dont know what it is but think it may be my map that is over fueling the car!

cant afford it, got about £10 to my name and its not payday for another 10days lol
