Trying to remove the alternator on my 02 Toledo 1.9tdi.

I take it there are two bolts that hold in it?

If there is another one, where is it?

Cause the alternator is stuck fast at the moment.

Never taken mine off, but there are only two bolts that I can see. They will need to come right out. Have you tried taking the tension off the v-belt by using a spanner on the square tounge on the tensioner arm?

THanks for the reply.

Well, the pulley seized on xmas day evening! AA man cut the belt so engine could start. Managed to get home on battery power followed by the AA for 30 miles!

I had to remove the tensioner to get to second bolt, so can you see two bolts with the tensioner in place?

I'm looking at Elsawin and a Haynes manual. Looking under the bonnet all I can see is the power steering pump and the turbo pipework, and if I peer through that lot, a bit of the tensioner and alternator pulley.

All the references say there's only two bolts.

You may need to remove the idler pully as well, it's right in front of the alternator and my be stopping it from moving out?

Well I finally got it out! :D

I needed a chisel and a hammer to prise it away from the mount, then lots of wriggling to free it completely.

Not much room to get it out from the engine bay though, had to discount coolant pipe to the engine and move it out of the way.

So to remove alternator:

intercooler pipe from wing to EGR valve
wheelarch panel
power steering pump/pulley
belt tensioner
2 bolts, and wiring to alternator
disconnect coolant pipe to engine
