There should always be pressure in the system, when the cars not running i look for circa 5 bar +, although just because it has good pressure doesn't mean there's sufficient refrigerant in it.

Yeah I know I've been a mechanic for 19 years
What I meant was if there was sufficient refrigerant in the system and the pressure switch allows the system to start and the compressor is faulty therefore not increasing pressures the control unit can flag the code saying the pressure switch is faulty.
I was just trying to keep it simple

Turns out mine is a faulty pressure switch. Seat garage have quoted £297!

Christ! I assume thats inc vat and recharge?,though still crazy prices. A switch is a few quid. Change yourself and go get it gassed for 40 50 quid.

As said ill be checking mine today. If i need a new switch ill do a how to.

When my system failed , local dealer insisted on an aircon service before investigating fault ,then gave me fault code which turned out to be a knackered compressor . Seat wanted nearly £800 pounds in total ! I got an independent air con company to repair for £400 .

my car is going to be looked at tmrws, but cant kwik fit be liable for all this, because it all worked fine before i took it into there garage, and after the re gas and de bug he just said there seems to be a fault as the air con hasnt taken, so got a refund thro kwik fit....

but it worked fine before i went there with no noise, NOW when i turn the air con on it sounds like a aeroplane starting up :( bad times for me and my cupra lately :(

Know the feeling hun. But it will be difficult to prove that it worked before you went there though :-/

UPDATE

today i took it back to kwik fit because it still wasnt working....

they got their technician out and after nearl 2hrs wait they cam back and said there is no leaks and the compressor seems fine and switch but there seems to be an electrical fault charging up the fan....

Now ive not got a bloody clue what is going on, my dad is fuming because it all worked fine before i took it to kwik fit...

so ive been turned away from them with a full gas of air and de bug but still no air con....

does anyone know where i stand with this??? i mean are kwik fit liable to sort this fault out, or do i just get it sorted myself???

feel ive been totally done by them as now it dont work and they just kicked me out the door so to speak, no sorry no nothing....

fuming is not the word right now....

any ideas pleas???

It's not likely that kwik-fit could cause the problem; all they do is hook up your car to the automated re-gas machine, tap in the car make and model details and then press the start button. Since you took your car to them because the air-con wasn't working properly and now it's still not working properly I can't see you being able to claim they've done anything to damage your system.

From what their technician told you it sounds like your condenser fan isn't working, which means that the air-con will keep cutting out beause the pressure builds up on the high pressure side of the system due to lack of cooling of the condenser without the fan running, the pressure switch then shuts the system down until it cools and the pressure drops.
