Don't think that technisat unit will work because....

This is the connection diagram for fitting the technisat unit to the dresden-navi unit.

note the pin layout.

and this is the layout on the back of our headunits

(thanks to andy15star for the photos)

The likely connection block for the aux-in/usb/etc is the blue block i reckon. so whatever aftermarket solution is, will need to plug in there.

I asked Technisat:-

"Is it possible to use the "Mobile Audio System" with your "SEAT Audio System"?"

They replied:-

"Unfortunately it is not possible to use the TechniSat Mobile Audio Interface with the SEAT Audiosystem."

I've now asked them what the words "multimedia box" under "Interface" mean.

Just a thought, would the VW MDI system not work? This is what all the latest VWs and Skodas are shipping with. We know from another thread that the connectors in the Ibiza work on the VW RNS 510 head unit, so maybe the MDI connector would plug into the SEAT head unit?

that was covered a few pages back, it needs to be tested to actually know, and it's an expensive bit of kit.

Just had a reply back from Bartletts Seat

The official solution is available through them for

£208.74 - Kit
£100 - Installation & VAG-COM

So there it is! That's it!

Anything other this will be an aftermarket solution.

One thing i would like to point out at this point is that after having this car of just under a month now, it's obvious that the sound quality that is produced from this head unit is not up to scratch with sound junkie requirements.
Also, when using CD's with MP3's on them, the changing of songs is really really slow - worried that if i go and get all this kit, a large harddrive full of music is going to be slow as hell.

I'm glad i have found this solution but for me i want better quality sound so i will, after all this, be going for an aftermarket solution. £308.74 would go nicely towards a pretty decent touchscreen headunit!

I'm having second thoughts on just adding a parrot bluetooth on the standard unit. What choices are out there of a good aftermarket headunit with bluetooth around that price ?

Searching around, i found out that Kenwood has a "VW Group" multimedia player that replaces the headunit and is available through dealers of the VW Group, at least in the UK.

It's a lot more expensive though (advertised at 999 pounds fitted), but it also includes navigation.

Can't post links yet, but: www . vwkenwood . co . uk

The VW size units do not fit into the double din slot on the ibiza. The main body of the radio fit's in the hole but the front of the radio doesn't fit in the gap.

I wish Kenwood or even Zenec would make something like that for the Ibiza, standard double din units looks a bit lost in the space for the existing unit!

I'd quite like a built in sat nav that would look a bit more OEM than any of the current double din units.

Earlier I emailed Technisat to ask them what the words "multimedia box" under "Interface" meant.

They have just replied:-

"The Multimedia-Box is designed by SEAT. Therefore we´re not able to support
further detailled information. Please contact your SEAT dealer."

So it looks as if the only "official" solution is the £300+ option described by alex13p above.

I wonder if there is one unit for Blaupunkt and one for Technisat or if the two head units have interfaces which are electrically and mechanically the same.

Probably academic - looks like aftermarket is the way to go at these prices!

might have been posted but found this one

http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=19&cat=0&page=1

it says

The Seat USB/MP3 interface is perfect for connecting a USB Disk or MP3/MP4 player to your factory stereo. This is the perfect option if you do not have an iPod.

The USB /MP3 Car kit allows to connect your MP3/MP4 player to your Seat factory car stereo system without any loss of sound quality!!

Simply perfect CD quality sound all the time. It will also allow you to control your MP3/MP4 through your factory radio and steering wheel contols.

I now have techies old boc that had a dension kit installed. I knew that it wasnt fully functional (otherwise this thread wouldn't exist lol) But it charges my iphone 4 and plays from it, and also has usb input but i havent figured out how to work that yet. I do wish that the bluetooth worked like my surround system where i can answer calls and play music, that'd be a good cable free alternative to the aux cable!

Might get my wrist slapped for posting this given the current issues, but it might help someone who wants a usb.

Ebya.de have a usb interface for sale. Not sure if will work in a RHD car though.
