Well Scarlett got loaded onto a trailer and taken to the garage today. I had to steer it up on to the trailer which was nerve-wracking in case I got it wrong and dropped her belly onto the ramp and also hard work - a LCR with no power steering is a heavy beast indeed!

Quick pic - taken from back inside the flat as it was raining too hard to take pic outside so excuse the quality as the window was covered in rainwater...

Sad day :( Hopefully it's just the strainer or pickup needing cleaned...

Well figured it was too much to risk potentially trashing the engine by attempting to drive it to a garage compared to the extra £40 to get it towed there. I trust the garage it's going to so am sure I'll get the right diagnosis and not get ripped off, fingers crossed it's just crap in the sump. They're going to look at it today so I'll find out later what the score is and when I can expect to get it back.

Typical tho, this would have to happen the month the road tax is due so between this and the road tax she'll have stung me for the thick end of £500 this month. :(

It's just the start, once you start modding £500's will dissappear VERY quickly

hope alls well with the car soon

Usually shitty oil/gunk.
regular oil changes and cleaning of this recommended.
I had done regular changes with Millers XF long life, when I had to change my sump out due to incompetance of a so called garage my pick up was blocking.
For the cost of dropping your sump and checking this its well worth it.
Very common on Saab's for this to block and seize whole engine, even if you take the service interval 3,000 miles beyond the proper intervals

Cheers guys :) Know what you mean Willie, I've got a wish list already running into a couple of grand, it'll come in time, little by little.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was cheap-ass oil that got put in, don't think the car was that well looked after before (some bad scratches and interior marks very poorly patched) and the place I bought it from put crap brake pads and one crap tyre on it for it's MOT. Can't imagine they'd have spent any extra than they'd have to.

Are you a betting man ;)

Dunno TBH, mine had done about 70,000 miles with good services with good oil every 10,000 miles.
Your call

Well, just heard from the garage and the good news is that the pickup and whatnot in the sump was blocked as expected. They've cleaned it all out, done an engine flush with some fresh oil and put another lot of oil and a new filter in. I've got a lift out to the garage sorted so should have my LCR back by tea time :D

Aye, am as happy with that as anyone can be happy with getting hit with a garage bill. At least it wasn't the pump, or head gasket or something. Just got her back home, definitely sounded smoother on startup so reckon I must have better oil now than before. Will need to invest in some basic tools, trolley jack and axle stand and learn to do these things for myself.
