It is great most of the time and in a petrol it's great all of the time.

Most would disagree with me but I feel like it's programmed for a petrol when you use kickdown. I'm not sure if you know what it does but it has 1, 3 and 5 on one shaft and 2, 4 and 6 on the other.

When on the motorway doing legal speeds in 6th in a pertol and you want/need to give it some it can drop to 3rd on the other clutch. It does the same in a diesel but you really need 4th - problem is that it's on the same clutch as 6th so it won't jump to it. Get around it with two shifts in manual mode but sort of defeats the object.

Plant your foot until the little button clicks. It basically tells the auto box you want to get moving asap. I found it easier on the 170 dsg golf i had to half floor it to drop to 5th as it moved more on half throttle in 5th than full throttle at 4k rpm in 3rd. It always needs to drop 2 cogs I find.

Sounds good! Technology these days! Moved up a bit since my 1st car (Peugeot 106 with manual choke!)

My dad used to have the Scorpio, he said best car he's ever owned! Haha

Do you notice much difference in multi link compared to standard?

It was always going to be a 2.0 for me.
My only decision was 150 or 184 and that took all of 5 seconds really lol
Multi link suspension, more power, and bigger brakes for 1k, yes please!!

Im in a 2.0 fr 150 its good car, came from pd 170 its not much difference power wise to that, the power delivery is smoother.

Drove a 184 a few times it pulls better low gears i can tell the diffference between that and my 150

I have a 1.6tdi 7 gear dsg and recently done a 3 hour journey and I tested it out, on a full tank at 45l I think it is, well 61 pounds of diesel, at 70-80 mph on motorways I did approximately 590 miles give or take the odd non motorway journey returning 60.8mpg put a full tank today to see what in town driving would be like I'm thinking to average from 48-53mpg I hope, will post results as soon as I finish the tank. While regarding dpf every diesel will have problems if not allowed to regenerate. Hope it helps.

The mileage is 6450, I've just done 150 miles on the tank so far and mpg figures look promising, going to wait till tank is finished till I post results.

Had a look at a few 1.6s latley, but i think its not worth it and for a little more cash i could get 2.0 tdi which has more go. Think it would leave me dissapointed otherwise.

I have a 1.6 Tdi Leon as a hire car while mt Audi A1 is getting fixed. Although it's apparently the same engine, the Leon feels a bit quicker and smoother. Very impressed to be honest as I thought a heavier car would make it feel slower. I always thought I'd go for a 2.0TDi, but this has really got me thinking that the 1.6 is good enough.

Sadly I have to agree with this, I have the 150 2.0 TDI FR with DSG and when driving around normally it is a dream, it shifts so smooth and never seems to struggle or thrash the engine but you click that kickdown and it just seems to drop too far down and use the useless end of the rev's.

I find if you need to overtake something its far better to click the gearstick back and that will knock the gearbox and engine into sport mode and that seems to work far better as it tends te keep the revs between 1800 and 4000 which seems to be the torque and BHP sweet spot.

The DSG is amazing and once you have gotten used to not using the kick-down and when you are on a boring drive it makes life so bloody easy, making it easier to pay more attention to the road and whats going on around you.

To conclude, I have the DSG, its the fist time I have had an auto-box car and now I would never go back (Came from a Fiesta ST running 165 BHP). I would of had the 184 if at the time of ordering mine they did the 184 WITH the DSG but I would rather have the car a year earlier and get a DTUK box ;)

Also keep in mind that a lot of the people with the 184 TDI's are getting BETTER MPG's than the 150 TDI's.......
