Sadly I have to agree with this, I have the 150 2.0 TDI FR with DSG and when driving around normally it is a dream, it shifts so smooth and never seems to struggle or thrash the engine but you click that kickdown and it just seems to drop too far down and use the useless end of the rev's.
I find if you need to overtake something its far better to click the gearstick back and that will knock the gearbox and engine into sport mode and that seems to work far better as it tends te keep the revs between 1800 and 4000 which seems to be the torque and BHP sweet spot.
The DSG is amazing and once you have gotten used to not using the kick-down and when you are on a boring drive it makes life so bloody easy, making it easier to pay more attention to the road and whats going on around you.
To conclude, I have the DSG, its the fist time I have had an auto-box car and now I would never go back (Came from a Fiesta ST running 165 BHP). I would of had the 184 if at the time of ordering mine they did the 184 WITH the DSG but I would rather have the car a year earlier and get a DTUK box
Also keep in mind that a lot of the people with the 184 TDI's are getting BETTER MPG's than the 150 TDI's.......
Good review on the DSG. I didn't know that the 150's aren't getting as good mpg as the 184's though. I'm looking at investing in a DTUK box too.
