I posted somewhere about the 1.6tdi courtesy car I had while mine was in. It was fine around town and on the move but returned at least 10mpg worse economy than my 184.
2.0tdi if you are doing 30+ mile journeys and covering 15k a year or the 1.4tsi in my view.
Economy comes down to driving style and type of routes driven, I can guarantee you will get better MPG in the 1.6 if you are driving for economy
I have a 143 Exeo and depending on how I drive i can get anywhere from 40-65 mpg depending on how I am driving on the same route
Did once have a Toledo 1.6 CR as a loan car and managed 72 mpg on that was worked out on paper
I do mainly dual carriageway and motorways. So the 1.6 tdi might be ok for me.
My 1.6 courtesy car was worse on all the same routes driven more economical if anything. I was as suprised as the next guy. I get real world 65mpg + on my 184.
way you drove then
you wont get the same economy driving the same way
It was exactly the same. Like i say i was suprised. Just what I observed. Many are saying the same on here and across the vag group though to be honest. Didn't top gear do ot once on skodas and the 2.0 was better and they followed eachother. Or the m3 vs prius thing they did.
Thats the point you were driving exactly the same way, a different engine needs to be driven in a different way to get the best out of it
as to the whole m3 thing, you compare a M3 sitting at 60 MPH and a prius at the same speed the Prius will do a hell of a lot better
I managed to get 74mpg the other day after a 20 mile trip up the M1 doing in between 50 and 60 the whole way. And then I had to get off at my junction (thinking to myself, "goodbye 74mpg"). I'm thinking now to trade it in early and get the 184 but insurance will be a killer! So I guess I should just hold out for a couple of years. Is there much noticeable difference between the 184 and the 150 tdi?

Go on then I'll say it - 34ps.
I had a 150 demo for 2 weeks as the 184 was not being made at the time and I was impressed. It's easily as quick as the last gen 170 tdi leon / golf and much happier doing it.
Not a huge amount in it but it is noticeable. Not in any particular area but a bit better all over. For £1000, 3mpg and a few co2s it was a no brainer for me. (They have tweaked the co2 on the 184 to 112 now which does push you up a band. My early one is reguatered 109 and he same band as he 150).
You get better brakes and the sound actuator too remember.
So the 150 doesn't have the sound actuator? Also do you have the DSG gearbox?
