Ok so i washed the car yesterday and noticed that beneath the rear wiper to the left slightly there is a small bubble under the paint!!!!

Nothing severe at them moment but i would imagine in time it could grow and cause problems.

Is this a common problem and if so what causes the water to collect in this spot?? When i bought the car the previous owner wasn't obviously a 'car washing' type there was a load of green gunk along the rubber seal where the glass meets the boot. I cleaned it all out and dried it and it has never re-appeared.

But now i have this bubble in the paint - whats the best way of tackling it and can i stop the water collecting here??

Cheers

No way! That is exactly where i have just noticed the tiniest bubble rust too

Its mental as the car is only about 5 years old and i am ALWAYS cleaning it

I would have thought it would be hard to stop the water collecting there as thats the way its built but you could just make sure that your car doesnt stay wet for long periods of time (like overnight cover it with a towel? Or try and shelter the boot with a tree or something)

Would be difficult if it rains though

It would be best if you could park it in a garage but i know you dont have a choice with that sometimes (im sure you have already thought of that)

How old is the car?

Yeah i was gutted to find it!!!! :( its a 2001 so only 5yrs old too. I am moving soon and hope to be able to garage it every night which should help.

Guess a trip to the local bodyshop is in order to get a quote for remedial work.

Hope you get yours sorted too!!

Yeah thats an interesting avenue worth investigating - like CupraTGirl said is this something that came with the car as standard??

If anyone could shed any light on this that would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I had rust bubbles in exactly the same place last year. I had the rust removed and boot resprayed under warranty.

I did a post about it on the other site....

oh, if they can tell that your rear window has ever been removed they will not repair under warranty. I have tints and had trouble persuading them the window wasn't removed for fitment.

Thats great news!!!!! Cheers for the info guys - sounds like its a common thing which if approached in the right way i might be able to get sorted with dealer then.......

Are there details anywhere i can read up on this warranty etc??

Ssstew - how come they wouldn't do yours then?? Did they give a reason??

You can all guess where i shall be tomorrow!!!! And CupraTGirl too i should imagine.

Cheers guys

Does it depend what Warranty you have?

I think mine runs out this month so will have to get it done soon

The water pools there after you wash the car, an easy way to stop the problem is after drying the car open the boot and leave it like that for awhile... has worked for me!

Yeah i dry inside all the door frames after washing it and then wax it straight after so should be able to stop it pooling there

Have not noticed it before though so i dont know if it was there when i first bought the car of if it is since i have had it although i suppose it could just be a case that the damage was done before and has just come out now but i dont know for sure

Where is this rust? right near the window?, as i dont have any rust on my that i have noticed, where does the water pool?... only rust i had was alittle spot right on the lip of the boot lid, from a stone chip i think, soo i got a halfrauds stone chip repair kit thingie and it seems to have stoped it from rusting more

On mine its just to the left of my Rear Wiper but on the actual paintowrk under the rubber seal

I only noticed it when i was waxing and have noticed it before so wonder if it is new

The seals just seem to hold loads of water in them and i suppose pools there, i always get drips coming down after shammying a couple of times (there is always certain parts of the car that you get drips keep coming down and i think this is one of the places it holds it in)
