Whilst reversing, my brakes (i'm assuming) are making a very loud sound... without me pressing the pedal this is... when i do press the brake pedal, ever so gently... i get an even louder noise... it's not metal on metal and the brake discs and pads are all fairly new fitted 5-6 weeks ago at most... any suggestions on what this noise is?! :wtf:

Its called mooing

You can fit springs to the caliper that help the issue

Search vw hand brake spring on ebay

Maybe grit stuck, jack each corner up and rotate wheel by hand to see if the noise still there.

My old man has had this issue on his car (Not a seat but still the same problem) he found it was due to no leading edge on the break pads.

He fixed it by snading a small leading edge on the pad and it worked spot on (to my suprise). It could als be due to grim and grit on the carrier runners.

Cupra R should already have the helper return spring as standard but someone had fitted a new calliper to mine and not fitted the spring, fitted a new one today as per the recent thread on calliper springs and mine is sweet again thanks

Where are people getting the helper springs from and where do they fit. I take it its not the springs fitted to the pads as standard...
Cheers.

No they are retro fitted to alleviate the reversing mooing issue. I think they came from a seat alhambra

I had this on my old 330ci BMW, I checked pads and discs all good. So removed the pads and regreased them, sprayed wd40 first and it worked for abit just in the back of the pads not the disc side lol.
