Black to Red

I re-painted by calipers yesterday using the Foliatec caliper kit, quite chuffed with the result. I didn't have a new decal so went with the masking tape and scalpel blade technique.

Before:

During, with tape over the decal (bloomin fiddly)

For a quick face lift without the cost of powdercoating / rebleeding the brakes it was worth the effort i think.

Cheers for all the tips.

Ive painted my brake calipers before with black paint that you use on stoves. They held up perfect and didnt require laquer (if you want the mat look). I can recommend for a budget job...

This morning, myself and Ben (BoomhaueR) have been tackling his Brembos using this guide, and I have been pretty impressed. We both basically did a caliper each, but I sprayed on the lacquer on both sides as I had more rattle-can experience. Here's some pics:-

The offside caliper on arrival!

This was the same caliper afetr a long and delibarately slow scraping off of all the old flaky lacquer with a flat screwdriver (gently!)

Then a pretty thorough rub down with damp 1200 grit wet & dry sandpaper

And once the caliper had been washed I thought it already looked pretty good!

All masked up and ready for the start of the lacquer process

I was a little concerned about some of the chips on the top. Looked a bit ugly to be honest, considering how nice the main finish was meant to be after the refurb

So I used some bright red "Metal Protekt" plastikote paint I had lying about, and carefully touched up where there were chips. Not a brilliant colour match but much better than before. I also did a couple of spots on the other caliper.

TWO coats of lacquer

Guess what?! :D

A reminder of their prior state! :D

The final product after three coats of lacquer. Could have done more but I don't think it needed it

With the wheel back on, nice anthracite touch too.

And the whole car again, with freshly fitted 15mm rear spacers that I fitted whilst there. Also some 5mm ones went on the front.

Thinking about having a "day trip" refurb offer for LCR members :D Come to Exmouth, leave me the car (you can take the keys if I appear "shifty" :D) and go down to the sea and be a tourist for 4 hours or so and I'll get your calipers looking like the above. ;)

Looks really good! Thanks for the help Jason. I think the spacers seated themselves on a bit more at the back as there was a bit of knocking on the way home. But I re tightened the nuts and hey presto, jobs a good-un! :D

I was a little concerned when I had to double tighten them all at the back, but glad it's sorted itself out. :D

Refurbing Brembos

Hi gang,

I am soon going to refurb the brembos on my LCR(54plate) but before i start doing them i have a question(which may be stupid).

The white Brembo decal on the actual calipers, is this paint or are they stickers? If they are stickers where would i get new one from?

Hope it makes sense.

Stickers I think

If you are just doing the lacquer you can work round the logo's (keep the originals)

When you overspray with new lacquer you'll never know, trust me ;)

I repainted mine, took them right back to metal and they look good, re-doing them soon though as im not happy with decals :( will get some snaps up soon as i can. I found re-laquering a caliper thants done 70k makes them appear very dark, and burgandy, its amazing how bright they look after a repaint.
