We were invited up to CUPRA HQ to take a first look at the new 2024 CUPRA Leon, the car’s mid-life refresh for their hot hatchback. We also took some photos for you, which you will find below, along with more in the media gallery.

Is it just me or does the nose look very Hyundai now?
It's not just you. Ever since the Mk4 Leon came out, I thought it looked very "generalized". Like a Hyundai / Ford Focus mash-up. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful car imo. You can go ahead and call me biased, but the Mk3 Leon is for me personally still the most unique when it comes to design.

Agree with you on the mk4; just another one of many similar designs.

I always thought the mk2 design was quite ‘unique’ as IMHO it bucked the trend of being the same as everything else on the roads when it was launched. My favourite Leon designs are the mk1 and mk3 though.

A Mk1 Is For Life, Not Just For Fun

Some really interesting details to the car, logo in the rear lights, own colour code & more individual than the Audi/VW fleet.
I think this will be a popular choice for those buyers looking for something different but fun to drive. I think Cupra have really opened up that market again.
Personally, I'm not so keen on its front, but I am stuck in the dark ages with the Mk1's, so unless they go back to that design, I'll never think the modern Cupra's have the same wow factor 🤫
Great review though Scott, thanks very much for sharing 👍

Any news on the UK release date for the 2.0 265ps TSI engine in the Leon, now that the Golf GTI is available to order?

Am I being impatient, or is it looking unlikely that the 2.0 TSI 265PS engine is going to appear in the Leon?

It's available in the CUPRA Formentor, CUPRA Terramar, SKODA Octavia VRS and Golf GTI.
Before the release of the engine in any CUPRA model, I was not expecting it to appear at all due to the power output being so close to the 1.5 e-hybrid 272PS.
However as it's now in the Formentor and Terramar, I can't work out why not the Leon?

No prizes for guessing which CUPRA and engine I've been patiently waiting for!!

I messaged CUPRA Customer Services, the request got assigned to a sales representative at CUPRA Slough and heard nothing since (that was a number of weeks ago). Tried phoning a couple of CUPRA dealers last week, with a "promised call back" - to be fair, no car to sell so not in dealers interest to chase.

Reason for wanting the 2.0 TSI 265PS vs 300PS is the assumed lower road tax (RRP under £40K?), and cheaper insurance.
If it starts at £40K, I'll likely have a mid-life crisis and go for the 300PS or jump ship to the Golf GTI and save some money.
Leon is slightly roomier in the back, which is why I'm leaning towards the Leon :)

That's par for the course (I've found) even if you have a car to PX. I recently got an email about 3 weeks ago from Seat UK about changing the car, filled the online form in, got a response detailing the participating dealer...I'm still waiting for them to get in touch!
