Rain sensor

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my 2017 se lux auto rain sensor.
When I set the wipers into auto and I'm going down the road when it's raining or not the wipers won't stay in a slower steady wiping mode, they go nuts like it's absolutely chucking it down.
I've tried the toggle switch on the wiper control arm and it's set to slowest/ least movement, but the wipers go into moving rapid mode.
I have found the housing around the sensor/ camera is a bit loose and if I tap the housing it set the wipers off.
Is this a new sensor or a gel pad or what?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Ok soo further to me asking about rain sensor..... I've pulled the rear view mirror apart and had a look at gel pad that interfaces between the sensor and and glass and one side of the pad is coming off the right hand side has come unstuck so as far as I can work out as the car is going down the road and is bumping up and down the the whole mirror and sensor is moving just slightly enough to make the sensor think it's raining when it's not.
See photos attached
I've highlighted the side where the pad is loose and you can see feom the out side that one side of the pad is light where is coming off and the other side is dark where its still stuck down.
