Updated to 23/12, thanks for the links. Pretty sure it loaded in under an hour as was showing after a couple of days of my normal work commutes which are only 15mins each way

Formentor successfully updated to 23.12 with thanks.

Gave it about 45mins with ignition on and CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger connected while I did some trim work.

You'll have no indication of progress, but make sure the infotainment sees the USB as a connected device. Then give a soft power cycle with the USB stick plugged in after 45mins; i.e. ignition off, close doors and lock, wait 2mins, unlock, ignition on, check system information. If it says Navigation database: 23.12 then you're done!

Yes Skoda people keep the ignition on with the engine not pressed to start, that for me would mean aircon running etc hence where your battery charger would come in. I reckon you can fake it as I do on my mib2 high which is to kick it off and open and close the door at 15 minute intervals... ignition not on. My normal operating practice here, twice a year since 2019 . I could drive around during the process but in the engineering menu ( SWDL) which I don't think is available in mib3 I can see the update processing... but as said reckon the door opening trick would do it on mib3 all depends how the electrics are wired up. Needs someone to try.

If the update is stopped under a normal mib3 or mib2 high update it restarts from a restore point. Getting it done in one go saves using restore points although you aren't suppose to know about it.

Skoda people seem to be quoting 20 minutes or something on their press the ignition trick with the engine not running. Faster processors these days, mib2 high to get a similar volume of work done is 40 minutes.

Oh yes it can be done. A year or so ago it was verified that Seat / Cupra came with long life navigation FeCs the same as VW and Skoda in mib3 form. Seat / Cupra scrapped trying to make money out of map updates least offline. In 2019 when that happened, mib2 high and standard Seat / Cupra units came with life long navigation FeCs. That was slipped in mid year or so. That was carried over to mib3.

The stumbling block where people have issues mib3 will be where navigation has never been activated on the unit (outside Europe for one reason or another), export cars with the wrong life long FeCs and lastly operator error by fumbling the data handling to get it in the unit. Fumbling covers USB adaptors that don't support data, Mac users that don't use CleanMydrive once copied over onto the driver, people poking around in the files and saving, presenting the files at the wrong directory level and not keeping the USB stick in its default format exFat. The mib2 high trip wires due to download being signed so it has to be 100% exact no tinkering and resaving. Encryption test for modding picks those errors up. Data integrity.

Mib2 high didn't have a USB C on it so adaptors never came up as an issue. Cavalier formatting of sticks / SD existed before. NTFS shouldn't be used it slows down semi conductor storage, stick to the default out of the box format for USB sticks.

So, you can use map updates from VW site for Cupra vehicles? Here in Australia, I’ve been checking this page (https://www.cupraofficial.com/owners/technical-support/navigation-systems/cupra-leon) for map updates, but they’re constantly delayed. I used to update my Golf from here (https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/en/download/), so could I just select a Golf GTI 2021 onwards, discover media/ pro, then download the map and update via USB C?

Indeed yes. Seat / Cupra and sometimes Skoda post later than VW. They are not very good at putting the web pages around what's in their files store. They are all interchangeable files between brands. There are some esoteric Audi files for mib3 that I haven't been able to pin down which family of unit they fit in. You see those tabled on Russian sites. Keep off the Audi releases and you are fine. I have a feeling their is a new mib4 file spec coming probably what is those Audi esoteric ones. That will probably be in the up coming Tavascan for Cupra.

Trusty MartiniB of the Briskoda site is now saying mib3 navigation files are now published once a year rather than the twice of mib2, that's to get you to take a subscription to the monthly updates. They don't want to give too much away.

I've also included that SQL test now for the technically minded that allows you to place the file update on month and year without loading it up. I was kindly given that after I'd been asking a bright spark out there as to where that is placed in the files. A useful check. If you stop subscription to connect services map updates it will probably take twelve months or so to catch up to get anything new. Probably longer now the cycle is annual. That's where that SQL check is useful so you don't load up old stuff.

Thanks for your response! I managed to update it an hour ago with the VW files, not that I’ll ever use the inbuilt nav, but if I drive to the country and have no reception then it’s good in an emergency. Cheers!

People who are committed online map users have found the benefits in Austria, lost on mountain roads late at night on holiday. Welsh hills round here your are lucky to get 4g, soon drops away. I'd never get connect services very well on the drive. Only get 4g in one top bedroom window here. 4g / 5g an urban thing . They have to in fill with many transmitters in rolling hills. They don't and villagers block them being built if comms companies attempt to. Thank God for fibre to the property.

What's the latest navigation database nr? on my Leon FR '21, I have 24.4
23.12 is currently the most recent offline one. Pass on whether anyone is ahead of 24.4 on connected services. The threads is about offline update if you drop online map services to save money. You'd probably get 24.12 from June 2025 offline. That's the lag when you come out of contract. If for whatever reason connected services have stopped you'd have to fiddle with that. Users try to go dark with connect services since they don't want to be tracked by big brother, but if they do that they won't get firmware updates installed then complain about it....

Is this compatible with Leon? Or shall I wait for the VW version?
It's compatible. What is meant by cross compatible. Think there are mib4 / big screen map updates but they haven't hit Seat or Skoda yet. That's to come. The Tavascan I suspect may have a new update file which will be different but Leon4s and Formentors and all other Seat / Cupras on Mib3 (2020-2024) are good to go with this.

Confirmed, I've downloaded this morning and updated this evening. Maps version shows 24.6, it took 45 minutes to update.

Good to hear. The map files are produced internally by Vag or out sourced from Here Maps material, then just wrapped in an installation Vag file upload that can vary in how that's done, but the contents are identical once installed, nothing special about the Seat, VW, Skoda or Audi map data once loaded up for a given Mib release, all interchangeable. Preoccupation in some quarters in the past that the materiel is different. You just take the first one that works.
