Hi all

not had any warning lights for engine oil come on just a flashing coil few days ago but went away after restart ! Temp goes to 90 degrees like normal. Coolant is fine no sign of leaks but my 2015 1.6 tdi recently had a full service (mid April)and checked the oil today and it’s totally dry !!! Was dry before service aswell! But put that down to it being due a change! Also turbo is whining a bit could it be due to turbo ?? I don’t know much about cars so would appreciate some info plz before get ripped off at garage! Any advice much appreciated

Got any smoke out the exhaust? Or a leak, check the undertray to see if it has oil on it,
Who serviced it? Shouldnt be empty just because it needs a service.

No it had a bit of white smoke before I had it serviced but it stopped after the service in April I will check the under ray when I get a chance tomorrow

Also why has no low oil warning light come on ?? Prior to service I had an oil pressure low warning come up once but it went off straight away and nothing since! Aren’t u meant to get a warning when oil drops below a certain level ??

Thanks bro I been keeping an eye on it put 2 litres in and it’s not even gone up the dip stick hardly! Don’t understand where it’s going and also why don’t the low oil light warning come up? Going to jack it up on weekend and take bottom covers off to take a look.

I takes 1 litre of oil to go from min to max on the dip stick.
Fill it upto max - and then check the level regularly and note down your millage, to see if you are using oil vs miles.

Oil can leak externally (visible leak - sump plug/seals etc.) - or internally (burnt - turbo/piston seals/head gasket/valve seals etc..).

Your amber coil light is the glow plugs warning light.

White 'smoke' would usually be steam - from either condensation (normal on cold starts and cold days) or leaking coolant into the cylinder/EGR cooler (not normal)
If you were burning oil - that would be smoke with a blue tint.

Are you sure you are reading the dipstick properly and you haven't overfilled it? As said it only takes 1 litre to go from min to max! Does the smoke smell like burnt oil?

You need to keep an eye on it as even 10 secs with low oil pressure can destroy the engine and/or turbo.

Unburnt diesel also comes out of the exhaust as white smoke.

Overfueling of a diesel appears as grey or black smoke.

As you say burning lube oil appears as blue smoke.
