Rear camera falls out…

Hi everyone!

Could anyone advise please, does the car need to be flashed / reprogrammed in case I change a camera to another one of different revision?
My camera is also fell off and my dealer rejected repairing it under warranty.
So I bought a new camera and replaced it myself (I had an old A revision and installed D revision).
However it doesn't work and shows an error on dashboard. I wonder if it's a defective camera or the ECU needs to be reprogrammed?

The camera itself must be parameterised, coded and calibrated

Wow, I didn't expect that. Thank you! Now I guess I need to find a workshop which can do that in Berlin. Except for the official Seat dealer :)
Unfortunately as you've bought a different part number, it will be necessary for a specialist such as ourselves to manually configure the camera. It won't be possible to automatically configure it with the VWAG system.

Do you mean Obd11 can't flash in general or perform this particular task of the camera coding?
I'm asking since there are quite some videos (but this one is for older model
).

OBDeleven cannot flash or parameterise. Even in the video you've posted, the camera they bought either came with some random parameters on and they're happy with it, or they bought one from the correct vehicle. They didn't upload with OBDeleven

If you buy a VNCI 6154A or Godiag j2534 diagnostic adapter we can configure it remotely for you. You'd still need to calibrate it though

Quick update on my car with the rear camera lense that fell out when I closed my boot. Well yesterday was the day the my car was booked in with the seat dealer and they were really helpful to my surprise. They had a look at the car and then asked me how the camera lense happened to fall out. I told them that I had just shut my car tailgate and it simply fell onto the floor. I also told them that I am a member of this forum and that I now know that it's a common fault. The technician asked if I was jet washing around the area which I told him I had not been doing and he said that's good then because he had known other people to tell them that's how there's had fallen out and that they got refused to have it repaired under warranty in them cases. They offered to clean my car and update the infotainment system for free whilst I waited and then handed me the car back and said to wait a couple of days to see if it would be accepted by warranty. I've just had a phone call back now from Seat and they have said its good news and that they are going to fix it under warranty and that the whole module is going to be replaced because they don't stock just the lense. The lady on the phone actually said she was surprised herself that they was going to do it under warranty as she had had many before that had been refused. Must just be a pot luck thing but hey I'm not complaining. They are meant to be fitting it on April 15th which is not to long of a wait so that's a bonus too I suppose. I'll keep you updated when it's finally fitted.

Well my camera has just fallen out again for the second time. I got my car in March 21 and it first fell out in the summer of 22. It took 6 months to get it replaced as they couldn't get the part. Today I was just driving and again the lens fell out. It only partially disengaged from the body so I managed to retrieve it. I've stuck it back in with some superglue but typically the view from the camera is now blurred and looking off to one side. Same happened when I glued the first one back on. Not sure why the focus goes wrong as the lens is perfectly sited.
Just rang the dealer to get it replaced as the car has just 1 week of warranty left. Luckily it is a company car though so it will get fixed even if they refuse to honour the warranty.
This might also answer the question as to whether they've fixed the issue because as of late 2022 the parts were still faulty. For info, I never jet wash the car as can't be bothered to get it out of the shed so that's not the issue. Only time it gets jet washed is when it goes to the dealer.

Looking at the Volvo XC60 as its replacement as I think I've had enough of the whole VW group of cars.

Bought my 2020 first edition very recently and noticed when i got back from the dealership that my rear camera lens wasn’t there but was greyed out and almost had some moment when my dad put his finger on the unit. Is there a lens replacement part or would the entire unit need to now be replaced. could this be fixed under warranty even tho it’s not a seat dealer?

Presumably you have a booklet for your (aftermarket?) warranty which sets out details of what is and isn’t covered. Assuming yes, then you’d need to have a read through the booklet to see whether or not it would cover replacement of the reversing camera. The vast majority - if not all - aftermarket warranties restrict cover to the repair or replacement of electrical and mechanical components that have suffered sudden and unforeseen failure. Additionally, it could be that not all electrical and mechanical components are covered; cover may also be restricted to certain specific named components only, and there may be a monetary limit on the cost repairs, plus an excess to pay.

Don’t be surprised if the dealership / warranty provider says it’s not covered; with something like a missing reversing camera lens, they may say the missing lens has been caused by an ‘external influence’ (e.g. something has made contact with it, causing it to fall out) rather than it being an electrical or mechanical defect, in which case replacing the camera may not be covered.

Seriously?

You're right. There has been quite a good selection of excuses made by dealers as to why it's not covered by warranty:
"someone must have backed into it"
"someone must have stolen it"
"you must have jet-washed it"
"your dog must have eaten it"

OK I made the last one up, but it's no more ridiculous than the others.

Same problem - camera fell off Seat Leon Estate FR First Edition on Sunday - and my car is only 2.5 years old.

I've been told by my Seat dealer that it won't be covered by the manufacturer's warrantee, and quoted:
* £144 labour to fit new camera
* £250 calibration of new camera (they said they use a local BMW dealer because they don't have the equipment or skills, so charge me to cover their costs!!)
* £??? for parts - they've not told me yet, but I see people on here saying £600 and waiting moths. :(

So I've spoken with SEAT's customer service about things falling off their car.

They said that the dealer MUST see the car in person and run a diagnostic before confirming if it's covered under the manufacturing warrantee, (so maybe it is, unless they can prove otherwise ??), but also said that I'd be charged for the diagnostic if it's not covered. (Computer says computer must be used. Computer asks 'can you see the missing camera?' Computer says 'not covered, £120 please'.)

SEAT Customer Services also couldn't give me a list of what is and isn't covered under warrantee. They directed me to talk to THEIR insurers, as they are the ones who decide on a case by case basis (???).

Sad to say, this car has been riddled with issues since day one - a repeatedly dead battery, a failed rear washer pump, a failing interior light unit (it would instantly turn back on when turned off), lots of software issues the latest of which is android auto refusing to connect, brake and gear issues.

But still a lovely car to drive (when not braking, haha)

Yep, pretty much all main dealer warranties are in fact an insurance policy that they take out when they sell a new car. When they say they need to 'forward it to the warranty dept' they really mean forward it to the insurance company and see if they will pay out.

Hey. An update for everyone who would be in the same situation as me.

The story:
My camera 5WA980556B fell off as it usually does on Leon KL.
The dealer rejected changing it under the warranty and asked for 850 euros for a new one.
To be fair it was not SEAT warranty but an extended 3rd party one. They said the manufacturer's warranty would cover it.
I bought a new 5WA980556D on Ebay for 150 euros and installed it myself.
Then I coded all bits into 6C using OBD11. The camera still didn't work after that.
Then I spent a month trying to find a workshop which can make it work.
I went to 6 different services and none of them could fix it.

Yesterday I found a guy on Ebay using "ODIS" as a keyword.
It's a person who does chip tuning and cameras retrofitting.
I came to him today and he made it work in 30 minutes for 100 euros.
He said he parameterized the camera using ODIS.
And yeah, he added "this new generation VW is sh*t" :D

I had the same on a 21 plate Cupra Leon. Camera lense fell off last week, luckily on the drive, so I took it to the local Cupra garage today (12 miles away). They said it’s a common issue, inspected it and said yes it is covered under warranty, but would need to order the new camera unit. They are also ordering the calibration equipment as previously they have hired it (but they must have enough of these to justify the cost!). No estimate for when this will be done but they hoped for a couple months.

Mine is on lease so hopefully this is sorted by October 😬

An update. The car was in for MOT a month and half later and the local Cupra garage said they could do the camera then. Took them a week and half as they couldn’t get the system happy when calibrating the new camera. All done and dusted under the warranty and everything working fine now.

I love the Cupra VX2 PHEV estate but happy it’s going back in October. Can’t be doing with issues out of warranty.
