Hi all

Just wondered if any of you have done this job and if so did you replace the cam follower that drives the pump?

There seems to be a split opinion, some say leave the original follower in as it is mated/worn to the camshaft whereas others say install a brand new unit as a preventative measure.

There are no issues with cam followers on the ea888 gen3, But obviously there is extra strain on them after installing the higher volume item

Any advice much appreciated

Not my area of expertise. But I thought the new design eliminated the wear off the old mk2 cam followers. It's a roller follower now, I assume it's something like the bit below your looking at swapping? I've not seen or heard anything about these wearing prematurely.

Again no expert but the Cam issue is very common on the TFSI engines cant say as I have heard of it on the TSI ones and there are a lot of guys running bigger turbo's with this upgrade so would have expected to see it mention.

Just to add to the above, us TFSI owners can "upgrade" to the roller follower for £500+. For that amount of money spent to avoid changing the cam follower, the last thing I'd want to be doing is still paying to change the roller.

Yeah these engines (TSI) are roller followers, compared to the previous gen (TFSI) are the standard followers - bar the 2.5TFSI.

My thoughts exactly, many stage 3 cars knocking about now and I have never heard of engine failure - from the cam follower at least.

Its probably best to leave the original in which case

The diagram attached is helpful if anyone else comes across the same debate. Its easy to see why the TSI was updated to this

Cheers

It is not necessary but on Stage 3 will help get more fuel and more HP(Also higher HP in mid range)... or if you roon more than 35% ethanol stock HPFP and LPFP can't provide enought fuel to run corectly...

On several circuits where there was a change in elevation I would get fuel starvation but only when tank was half full or below.

I fitted a Revo one as I already had the map and they had to update the software to use the pump fully. Since then no issues but I did not have any problems on normal road use.
