It looks worse under certain types of light, but the 2K clear can only cover so many sins.

I put a couple of messy coats of clear on my front wings though so I didn't waste the whole can. I'd put base on one of them and it needed some, so at least there's that. I'll see how the bumper looks in the sun tomorrow, but this might have to be a paint shop job.

Something weird happened today...

I DID SOME WORK ON MY OWN CAR!!!!

Don't get too excited though as it wasn't much but it involved pulling out some bits from my personal stash that have been tucked away for at least 2 years I reckon.

First off was to fiddle with the mk3 Leon Cupra multifunction steering wheel, this came off a nice low mileage car so is in great condition and that's accompanied by a brand new airbag.

I recently had someone make the conversion loom for the CAN-BUS adapter module as you can see in the photos, I haven't wired this in yet though.

Slight hitch with the airbag install though...the flipping retaining springs are missing from the wheel so I need to poach them from somewhere so it clicks into place but on the whole very happy with the way it looks and feels.

Yeah look good together don't they, it'll be even better once I've got my head around the wiring up of this module.
It'll tie everything in nicely with the illuminated steering wheel controls which should operate functions on the stereo headunit and cluster MFA.

Did an oil change and changed fuel filter today. First time I've done it on this car, no idea when it was done before I owned it, but the oil was pretty bad.

It's a tough gig. It still took 2 guys three and a half hours to do mine yesterday.
See how it looks tomorrow with fresh eyes.

It's far from perfect, but it's better than it was before I sprayed it and that'll do for now. If one day I decide to turn it into a show car () then it'll get some more attention, but I really don't think most people would notice.

When you look at it from certain angles you can definitely see something's not quite right... This is probably the most obvious part.

And a couple of places like this one where there's some overlap...

The paint company has offered to send another can, which I might accept as it means I can do my bonnet, but I'm just looking forward to getting the whole experience behind me.

No work carried out but I did take delivery of another Cupra R and had a touch on eBay with resolving my missing airbag clips...bagged another steering wheel for a measly fiver literally 10 mins from home.

I'm missing doing fun jobs like that.

The more Cupras you break, the rarer they get, meaning ours go up in value. Would be nice to drive a petrol one before they're all more expensive than a new Ferrari though.

This is impressive.
looks like a brand new car with the double din sat nav screen, modern dash and steering wheel. Brilliant job.

they’re dirt cheap from here: View attachment 32074
I use a plastic trim tool:

I recommend replacing them. The new ones will be so easy to remove. You know you’ll be removing them at some time in the near future. 😉
Sorry I didn't reply sooner - thanks for this!

I came across that part number while I was looking for the clips but didn't know for certain it was the right one - if it worked for you, that's good enough for me so will put in an order later.

Looking at the paint in sunlight today, it really doesn't look too bad. There's more of a gap between the bonnet and the grill, but once I've got the clips back in and the trim, it might not look so bad. I've always had a gap though, so maybe just another part of Leon life...

So, you guys know I like my experiments with random car parts so strap yourselves in for the latest installment.

Let's start with a hole

Here's what should go there (right) with the same thing from a 2009 Scirocco.

20220604_181512.jpg

Pretty similar, but will it fit?

20220604_181214.jpg

Oh come on, they must have changed something

20220604_181250.jpg

Nope, it lines up perfectly, like millimetre perfect. Did some measuring and the back end is pretty much the same dimensions wise (was by eye with a tape measure so not super accurate).

The only thing now is the fluid level sensor wiring

20220604_182132.jpg

Those cheap ba... I mean, great people who knew not to mess with a good thing.

Btw, yes I tested out the vacuum line and it fits as well. So far it looks like only the steel lines would need modification to fit. I don't know if the ESP sensor is compatible for those who run such things.

I love these posts. I'm not knowledgeable enough on different parts and sizes (nor brave enough) to try things like these, but I'm more than happy to ride your coat-tails if it all works...

Any particular reason for the test or just seeing if you can chop and change certain parts? If it might help my brakes, I'm in.
