been using Castrol EDGE 5w-30 since 2011 when tiring to find what was used before i contacted all the seat garages that serviced it 6 times and there was 2 and that was not much help but the only idea i got off the guys who service talking to them was that grade so stuck with that but i did use a engine flush first but not done it since as its not a good idea to flush engine allot as you just let the oil build protection, only reason i wanted to know is as dropping too a thinner oil from say the 5-40 it can cause more harm due too burning more oil as the engine was run on that from say new, so if your not burning oil allot and the PD engine can as its natural with that engine but i don't burn that much between service as allot say, also Quantum oil seat sell is Castrol oil, and i change the oil and filter every 12 months but I've i have said that before

This a good site https://www.opieoils.co.uk/ i think there still on here

I think I came across one of your posts from years ago while I was looking.

I'm probably going to go for the Castrol 5w-30 and replace it once a year regardless of how little I drive the car. The Mobil 1 seems to have been OK, but I've been getting my running issues since I put it in, so I'd prefer to go with something I know other people use and is fine.

I'll probably be pulling off my rocker cover in the coming month which will give me a chance to look at the cam, but I haven't had anything happen that would make me think it's on its way out.

You can could buy genuine VW 5w30 for around £20/25 too. I recommend genuine Vw were I can as it’s exactly what the car was built to run then there is no doubt in your mind your running the wrong spec oil.

Edge is right spec oil went though all that years ago as if not allot of damage can be done , seen at that price but just stuck with same over the years.

Castrol use to make Quantum oil for VW (TPS) now its Fuchs, you can have VW printed all over it but someone has to make it and at the right spec, when getting my genuine oil filters from sere vw i had 3 different brands of oil filters sent over the years one was a cheap brand and you could tell, so just stick too bosch now, MANN/purflux and some others are the same filter the parts numbers for them are even on the Bosch Filter box.

New battery,
sadly not a deadweight industries version.
Although a saving of 12kgs is worth another look next time I’m in need.
New Bosch aero blades and a bottle of Millers octane booster.
Washed it too!
Even whispered in its ear that it might get a set of new lighter smart shoes!!

Badger5 Custom Map + TIP,
3”Custom exhaust, FMIC, Bosh 550’s, BC Coilovers, ARB’s +loads more.

Not so much what I’ve done today but more- two completely different reactions from my kids picking them up from school in the Leon today.
Since getting the car back from its new mot a couple of weeks ago I’ve been laid up with Covid so it’s not moved.
Normally pick them up from school in my daily driver trafic van but took the car for a 20 minute drive to clear it’s cobwebs (and mine) then went straight to school.
On seeing it in the carpark my car mad 10 year old said “yes the Leon” clinching his fist, while the 6 year old who couldn’t care less about cars went “ huh dad, why’ve you come in the old car?” :ROFLMAO:
He’ll learn.

Umm... so I went down a bit of a rabbit hole this week, researching something, getting no real answers, and ended up buying something on eBay

Yes, it's a lower control arm for a Leon... a Mk3/3.5/4 Leon. Looks very similar to the Mk1 Leon one doesn't it.

So the car up in the air and got the tape measure to work.

Everything is the same except the rear bush is 10mm further back and 10mm thicker than the Mk1 wishbone.

May have to get a subframe to gently modify to fit Audi TT 8S wishbones and hubs 😁

From a purely practical point of view, it's not a bad idea. In the coming years, it's going to start getting harder to find parts for our cars as parts aren't produced anymore and stocks run out.

It's handy that we're on the VAG PQ34 platform and share all the components with the mk4 Golf etc. but that's only going to last so long. It's good to know what fits, what doesn't, and what can be 'gently persuaded' to fit.

Also, alloy wishbones + alloy hubs = no rust, and no need for a press to do a wheel bearing. I mean sure, the parts aren't cheap and it means converting to 5x112 stud pattern but still tempting

Got under the car and actually offered up the wishbone. Seems one or two angles are off so definitely wouldn't be straightforward. Still tempted to see what it'd take to get it to fit, just out of curiosity

This is how restomods happen - and I'm totally up for that. I don't have the understanding of geometry and how this might affect handling, but if you can get the front seated OK, the rear could just be a matter of welding the mounting hole and moving it back a centimetre.

Makes me wish I'd been better at maths though...
