Ive got to say, i miss the torque from my 150d. Admittedly it was remapped to 180. But you just don't get that with petrol cars.
Id have another Cupra diesel tomorrow if it wasnt for the Rita Funberg types making me feel guilty about it.

I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea what horsepower is, or what it feels like in a car, but I know exactly what torque is, and it's without doubt what I love about cars.

When it comes to electric, we're going to have to accept that we're in a minority that's getting smaller by the year. Most people just want something comfortable that's going to get them where they need to go, and every year the tax will go up and the emissions limit will go down.

But we've still got some time before that happens, so let's have some fun.

******* garages, man... Picked up the car this morning and they told me the bearings didn't need replacing at all.

Basically when I had my snapped ARB droplink bolt last year and I got another garage to replace the control arm, they took out the driveshaft nut and cross threaded it, so it wasn't dodgy bearings but the driveshaft basically being loose.

Honestly, 95% of the time I'm better off doing this work myself.

There are some pretty crap mechanics out there.
I can't see why they needed to touch the drive shaft in the 1st place.
All sorted now?

I'm guessing what the other garage did was to take out the driveshaft so they could get to the top nut of the ball joint, rather than get the control arm off by undoing the three bolts underneath and sliding it out. So when the time came to put the driveshaft nut back on, they just noisy gunned it rather than torque it to spec and it wasn't even on properly.

When I've been working on the car this past year, I've been looking at the nut thinking it looked off, because there didn't seem to be many driveshaft threads visible and there was what looked like plastic or something sticking out one side.

Fair play to this other garage though - they could have charged me £250 and say they changed the bearing but they put a new nut on (when, as always, I have one at home) and charged me labour.

All seems fine now. I won't know until I next get the car in the air whether there's any play, and I hope they put the disc retention screw back in (little details like that are important to me) but it drives fine and means I've got more money to replace my boost pipes now.

And get this - they used copper slip. First garage I've ever found where they didn't go in dry.

Theres a time and a place to go in dry.....
Lucky you didn't need a new shaft or at least an outer joint.
Sounds like the last place put the nut in the socket and went for it rather than starting the nut on the shaft thread first.
Ameture w****rs.

In all honesty, I'm amazed there wasn't any damage. Me driving probably less than 500 miles last year probably had a lot to do with that though. I just see this whole experience as a massive dodged bullet - my wheel not falling off being the first, and the second this garage being honest enough not to bend me over and charge me hundreds for doing work that didn't need doing.

I'm so tired of crap garages. So, so tired. How is it some driveway mechanic can do a better job on my car than a bricks and mortar garage?

Ive always done my own work but for the last couple of years ive had to rely on garages. Hasnt been great to be honest.

And speaking of bending over.
I wanted 2 front rollbar links fitting to my car.
Formula1 Bedford.
£70+vat mate, then you will have to have your tracking done as itll affect your cars geometry(no it doesnt). Thats another £40+vat.
So £132 to fit 2 rollbar links? Erm, no thanks.

Yep, i went to a garage local to my house and it was quiet so got chatting to the boss. He lent me tools and a ramp. Half an hour later it was all done.

I cant believe how much people pay to get their cars fixed who dont know any better. Punters be punters to some i guess.

Did a little measuring in the engine bay to see if an idea I had is genius or really dumb.

Result? Probably a bit of both which is better than I thought.

Yeah, I know this is a cryptic post but don't want to say too much till I'm sure I'm going ahead with it.

Whats the most you can get out of a pd150?
Was getting my car washed today in the local hand car wash. And behind me was a clearly modified Alhambra.
Had a quick chat with the owner. Sead it was a pd150 from a Leon with a 2.2d mercedes turbo, fmic, hard pipes, induction kit, air filter, 3.5 inch straight though exhaust and a remap. He quoted 350+ hp. Is that even possible? 200hp more than the factory?
Must admit, it did sound lairy lol

It's possible with a huge list of mods and a very proficient tuner but most PD owners won't go that far as costs spiral rapidly once you start going over about 280bhp.
