Yep - I'm happy with that fit. 62x3mm o-ring and it seems to be a little bit thicker than the one I just took out.

Cleaned the mating surfaces for the intake manifold and the EGR cooler as well, so hopefully no boost escaping there in future...

Was there a straw that broke the camel's back, or just that it was the right time?

Just the right time. Hopefully someone else gets as much fun as I did out of it

Right then... Took the car out for a spin and mixed town driving with a bit of an a-road blast, and it does seem to feel better. Less hesitation and less stuttering and the engine bay doesn't smell like exhaust gases like it did before.

If I'm going to say one thing, it's that it doesn't feel as torquey as it used to. One of the things I always loved about this car was the amount of low end grunt it had - and it's why I preferred the diesel - but it doesn't feel quite there. It might just be because I can't remember what the car is like when it all works properly, but I'm sure there's something that's just, well, missing.

I'm thinking the next thing I'm going to have to do is fit that boost gauge, because at least then I can get an idea of what kind of pressure I'm reaching, or if it fluctuates on hard acceleration. That's going to be fun.

might need a good motorway run after doing mine a few days later i was getting allot of smoke think that was due to the more air in system as it sounded like it i even got limp mode I'm like wtf but id only done short journey's after the clean, a good motorway run cleared it and back too norm now that's what i should of done after doing it, you might be same due to air leaks and build up, torque was same before and after though, 6th gear rear helps on opening up the veins as well

It can't do it any harm, whatever happens. I haven't done a really good a-road or motorway drive probably since the MoT, which was in late January. The last time I took it on a dual carriageway was when I was having trouble with the boost leak, but I can drive up to Gatwick and back tomorrow to see if it irons anything out.

In the end, it does feel like it's getting better - it would make it easier if I knew anyone down here with a FR150 to compare it with though...

that could be it I've always tried too do less short journey's as much as i can, that will do the turbo the world of good, if we were local we could but I'm in Manchester, problem is if you did try mine you'd want yours mapped as well lol, could be other daft things like your air filter might need changing but i bet that's been done, you may of also had limp mode due to no torque as you sorted the leaks and ecu/turbo detected a difference

That's something I've tried doing over the past couple of years - the trouble is that a lot of my journeys are pretty short, like going to the tip, Euro Car Parts or up to the girlfriend's house, so I have to devise a route that'll at least get the coolant up to temperature, but it's rare the car gets to really open up for long periods of time.

The air filter is something I could change - looking at my notes, I installed the current filter in August 2019, but I've only done 3,000 miles since then. The last oil change and oil filter was about a month before that as well, so that oil has been in the car for a couple of years, but only has 4,000 miles on it (I drove to the Netherlands between the oil change and the air filter change).

EDIT: I might take the air box out and give it a good clean just to be sure. There are probably leaves and things caught up in there somewhere that might be restricting the air intake even before it gets to the filter.

Oil change intervals are a nightmare. I know some people on here change their oil something like three times a year no matter what the mileage, but it's a pain for me to do just the one, both because there's an environmental issue there, but also given I do most of my work on the street and the space outside my house often gets snapped up the moment I drive away to warm up the engine for the oil change, then there's the faff of taking off the undertray and all those other excuses...

Truth be told, I think I subconsciously bought my new clutch because I want the car remapped. I don't need a clutch for about another 10,000 miles, and at the rate I'm going, that'll take about four years to do, but I do really want a remap and so I'm always edging towards putting the new clutch in as my next big job...

What's yours putting out at the moment and where did you get it done?

Oil and filter change every 10k or 12 months whatever comes soonest, long life oil changes were advised I.e 20k but it turns out that’s not a good idea, the pollen filter I think that’s 20k but I’ve changed mine a few times just depends how bad it is doing that regular keeps the ac system less stressed overall, got a carbon pollen in at moment as I got it as same price as the standard pollen, also got a K&n filter in mine it makes no difference in performance but got that at a good price also I just Hoover that out now and again and that’s saved me a load on air filters over the past 10 years lol

Around 200bhp 320 lb/ft , makes car allot smoother and allot less lag just got to watch the clutch as 320 lb/ft is on its limit so no fast and furious standing starts lol, just use a bit of common sense, it’s just a generic map as well that was done in 2012
