Anyone have a cat or a sports cat between a 3" downpipe and a cobra catback exhaust?
Catback would need to be cut shorter obviously but it would be easier to change the cat on for yearly inspection rather than the whole downpipe. 2.2" coupler to 2.5" would be needed aswell because the slimmer part which connects to downpipe needs to be cut
Took it for a hand car wash. Parked it at work yesterday. Found out that id be kipping in my lorry last night so, not only was i hanging today, to was the car (parked under a tree). Then it started to rain!
the one on my egr going to manifold was fibre the small one underneath was metal with a recessed edge, the fibre one fills gaps like its not a full flat surface also when i removed mine even though the egr was tight you could see the gasses were trying to get past, still cleaned all with brake cleaner though, i think your organel one is not the right gasket as with the ones i seen for sale for that area are fibre, clean egr and lower pipe again while off with oven cleaner comes up like new lol, quieter shutdown and seems like more comes in car smoked a lot after i did it due to more air a good blast fixed thatYou're the first person outside of Cornwall I've heard use the word 'hanging' in that way...
My EGR gaskets arrived today. They're not the same material as the old ones, which are metal. These are more of a fibre material. I'm sure they'll be fine though.
I've spent more time looking around for what my hiss could be and a couple of forums I came across had people suggesting it's the lower EGR cooler pipe that can crack or split. Others have had a cracked intercooler. I know what I'd rather it be...
I love a little detective work, but I wish the car would throw me a bone here.

Well, right or wrong, they're both coming out tomorrow. I have a feeling that the fibre one will do a better job of sealing the connection, and one of them is damaged anyway. I didn't think any damage on the outside edge would cause a problem, but it looks like that might be the case.the one on my egr going to manifold was fibre the small one underneath was metal with a recessed edge, the fibre one fills gaps like its not a full flat surface also when i removed mine even though the egr was tight you could see the gasses were trying to get past, still cleaned all with brake cleaner though, i think your organel one is not the right gasket as with the ones i seen for sale for that area are fibre, clean egr and lower pipe again while off with oven cleaner comes up like new lol, quieter shutdown and seems like more comes in car smoked a lot after i did it due to more air a good blast fixed that
watch you don't drop the gaskets on lower pipe and theirs one at each end i did as they stick to pipe, will be surprised if that's cracks its quiet heavy gage and the pipe looks stainless steel, i copper greased the bolts putting back in as well, also its easier too remove with pipe than just egr due too that dam right bolt underneath i took that off later when removed, i used the cif oven cleaner all the same gear, rinsed with water then finshed off with brake cleaner i nearly waxed it as well lol, one mine i rekon the flap was not fully closing thats why noisy shutdown but looked like it was when i checked beforehand, messy job though you need to wear gloves alsoWell, right or wrong, they're both coming out tomorrow. I didn't clean the lower pipe when I cleaned my EGR, so I'll give it some Mr Muscle tomorrow when I take it out. If there are any cracks or leaks in that, it'll give me a good chance to see if there's anything going on there too.
It's given me a good chance to learn about EGRs though - when they're open, closed etc. They're open more when the car is idling, but also when you're holding it at lower revs, which is when my shudder happens, but also the hissing sound is when I'm accelerating in lower gears, which suggests the hiss could be from either the gasket or the lower pipe, as that's the only time really that exhaust gases would be going through those pipes.
You know how those pipes smell as well? That's how my engine bay smells when I open the bonnet after a drive. What, you're telling me you haven't smelled your engine? Weirdo.

pointless gases will just dry the silicon out in no time even if you could you'd need a rubber lubricate as some oils rot the rubber i would remove the o-ring though before using over cleaner as just clips in and out you'd be surprised the carbon behind it, that happened time first time one reason i took bottom pipe out with egr and did that dam bolt after removed, but you still need to remove the left bolt to gain access too the bolt holding egr,I might spray some silicon on the o-ring gasket on the side of the EGR that connects to the intake manifold - just to keep things healthy and sealed. Unless that causes harm...
I'm quite looking forward to it now - I know only too well how horrible it is getting to those bolts and I know my wrists will be shredded from the hose clamps on the expansion tank lines, but if this fixes it, that's all my performance issues gone.
Wait, that last bit didn't come out right...

That's the one between the EGR and the intake manifold. In the end, I'm glad I checked, as that's far more likely to be the cause of a boost leak than the gaskets underneath, but at the same time, it's frustrating because I've got a full day and I doubt I'll be able to get it and fit it today. I don't think Halfords do that size either, so I can't even do a quick fix. Both gaskets on the pipe under the egr are steel like one in the pic, is that other a rubber seal?
I have seen them on the place I got my rear locks, look same as well, you’ll be on Gretas Christmas card list how as your cycling LolThat's the one between the EGR and the intake manifold. It's only been in there eighteen months. I'm guessing the last time I took the EGR valve off it must have got caught and ripped.
EDIT: Just managed to get some from eBay. OEM ones are something like £6 each, but I got five Viton ones - which should even be higher quality and more temperature resistant - in the same size for £10.
Looks like I'll be cycling for the next few days.
