These cars are going to be great once all you peeps have finished Beta Testing them 😀
Fair shout to you all for sticking with it and having more patience than me; by now I think I'd be slamming the keys back down on the salesman's desk and starting a frank and meaningful discussion about a refund.

Hi from Germany.
I feel sorry for you and for the others in this forum. One thing I don't get is this, I have one of the earliest models, rev B running on 1672 and I have no issue whatsoever. And I am using every bit of the features apart from android connectivity (only bluetooth calls and streaming). Is it a lottery or how else is this possible?

I’d like to see someone try and reject one due to software issues, can’t see it happening.

It seems to be lottery. My car has hardly any issues.

I’d like to see someone try and reject one due to software issues, can’t see it happening.

It should be possible. Didn't some people say, that they rejected Golf and Octavia before ordering Formentor?

Its already happened with at least three people that im aware of. One of them lives close to me and hes rejected his Formentor due to software issues and is getting a Cupra Ateca in its place.

I have already rejected my November 2020 Golf Style 1.5 eTSI after four months of ownership. Kept a detailed log of issues, and after four trips to the garage...I started the rejection process and got all my money back plus a bit extra from my part exchange.

We used that cash to buy a four year old Scirocco which is solid as a tank and I am expecting a rather predictable Skoda Superb iV Hatch tomorrow as I could not wait long enough for the formentor and in fairness I thought the software issues will follow me and my tolerance is rather limited for these issues. At least the Superb is the 'older' platform!

Were the issues software related or did to experience other gremlins?
We rejected an Ateca as it was downright dangerous but I’d have thought that the minor (cough) things that people seem to be experiencing would make it pretty tough to action given possible software updates coming on stream?
Personally, I’d get shot of mine tomorrow if I could but I don’t seem to be having enough hassle with it lol.
Someone mentioned “buyers regret”, maybe in another thread, pretty sure I’m suffering that, after a couple of months with the car, I’ve decided I don’t like it, the single screen does everything is crap and unpredictable, the lane assist and “safety” features are like having your Nan sit next you you, and it’s not particularly quick for a 310bhp car.
The seats are comfy and it looks nice though and it’s got a reasonable amount of space for what it is.
It’s probably me as plenty of people seem to love them but I’d advise taking a very long test drive and have a good play with the tech before committing to buy one.
I’d probably like it a bit more if I could

1. Decode all the crap out of it
2. Give it another 50bhp
3. Sort the exhaust out
4. Turn it into my C63 which I REALLY regret selling now sooooo much, even with it’s dash rattle and funny handbrake

The golf was a wonderful car to drive and I loved it as it was my first DSG experience as well.

All of my issues were software related and it was mostly around travel assist sensors. I actually liked all the nanny advice from the car as I thought it was pretty clever. Loved the iQ lights which I had paid extra for.

I did have one rattle straight off the dealership which they sorted and I had a 48V warning message the night I drove it home and a 12V warning the day I was driving to the other side of Scotland to pick up the Scirocco so I suspect a lot of my issues were electrical.

But at the end it was rejected based on software as things they kept saying were fixed via software they were not. So the promise of an update down the line did not cut it for me.

And so you should be able to reject a car based on software! Current generation vehicles revolve so heavily around the infotainment system, it’s a massive part of their vehicle marketing not just “here’s a car, and by the way you might like to use this newfangled Bluetooth connectivity”.

An argument from the dealer that “it will be rectified in an upcoming software update” should be met with “well you can refund me now and offer the car back to me when it’s been updated!”.

I would guess the current legal phrase is "Not Of Satisfactory Quality" (the modern equivalent of Not Of Merchantable Quality)

Hurry up and get back into a C63 before the secondhand prices get any more stupid
One of the reasons I sold my Honda Civic a year earlier than planned...went up £2,500 since last January.

Ridiculous really as a lot of money to pay for a 3 year old diesel civic! I cleared the PCP early and pocketed almost £3K more.

And apparently it's gone up in price since based on motorway where I sold it. That was also almost £2K more than what the main dealer was offering...would never trust them again I think!!

Strange times.

We seem to have similar point of view. I went for a test drive of BMW today. It has similar nanny features, but it has button which you can hold for 10s and switch off everything. Or you can change settings and they will be remembered. It also has button for start/stop, so you can switch it off before changing gear to Drive. I did some reading before going for a test drive.

If that BMW was to replace Formentor, I wouldn't hesitate a second. It was only 184BHP, but it felt quite sporty and dynamic. However, I went to test drive it, to see if it can replace Abarth and answer is no.

Used prices of everything went up already, so C63 C204 or 205 are up by now anyway. My C63 had rattling dashboard from day 1.

I started drving Formentor in Cupra mode most of the time, to make it more likable. And I'm thinking about resonator delete again, after hearing 69 plate Leon Cupra owned by guy at work.

Lol I had mine exactly a year and sold it on for what I paid for it, which was a lot considering it was 7 years old.
It was a bit special though to be fair, when I picked it up it was 6 years old had only done 2500 miles, never been wet, even smelled new. I just convinced myself that I’d never drive it enough so sold it. As it goes, it wasn’t a great fishing wagon and the Mrs never liked it much but boy, that engine and sound is something else.
Honestly, as much as I miss it I doubt if I’d have another as I don’t think I’d find one as good.
I really liked my 290 which I had before the Merc, was a really good car, no fancy electronic gizmos, just a good honest little hatchback and felt quick too. The Mrs loves her Ateca although it’s a little dull to drive (2.0 4 drive) so I thought the Formentor would be a good compromise between that and the 290 but it’s just trying to be too clever for it’s own good and that spoils it, for me anyway.
I doubt if I’ll own another ICE car. Not a massive fan of the new breed of electric vehicles but I can see myself sorting out some kind of electrified “old” car in the future. I’m sure as their popularity increases the price for the work might come down. An all electric Defender 110 would be fun lol
Funnily enough, I was considering another Discovery 4 but bloody hell, the price of a decent one is silly money.
Think we sold our last one a couple of years ago for £25k and struggled to get rid of it, a similar one now is like £30k plus. And it’ll break. Madness.

Bmw tech is usually pretty good to be fair, my old hairdressers 320d convertible was a lovely car. Only downside was run flats. The I drive was brilliant as was the HK sound etc.
Not a massive fan of the new bmw “look” though, my one (m sport plus) I still think is probably one of the best looking cars I’ve ever owned.
Mrs BCC had a Z4 and that was a horrid thing to drive at anything near the legal limit, bloody thing wanted to kill me round every corner, was glad when she swapped it for an SLK, much more civilised lol

Some of you complain about those electronic nannys. I was all-in for the assists in Formentor as there is little space for spirited driving. I am no old man but doing long trips I admire the fact that I have some restless helpers, ready to shut up in a no time! The Formentor is a family-daily with a heartbeat, nothing else. It does serve it's purpose well. The thing is you need also GC8 in your garage as a counterweight. Go for a spin, sweat after 20 miles and contemplate the effort you put in order to keep up with modern cars. There is no going back...
