I honestly don't get the soulless and boring comment lol.

You bought a VAG SUV crossover, you can't have been expecting a drivers car surely? It's literally designed so your Nan could drive it as you said, which is great considering the driving skill level of most road users :D

And out of all VAG group cars at the moment, the Formentor has the most technology/driver aids out of all of them as standard, so not sure what you were hoping for?

Did you not watch any car review videos first? :D - you want soulless, point and shoot, easy to manage you go VAG, 4 wheel drive, 310hp.

Sounds like you probably should of bought an M2 comp?

Agree about the M2 by the way but no estate version lol.
Plus, every young estate agent type chap round here has either an M2 or a Golf R and I don’t really fit that criteria being an old fart. Ha, probably the resin I’m not convinced my car, I’m too old and boring.

Ah you must need a boot for all your carp gear? :D

Mine hasn't arrived yet, but after the test drive im pretty sure I will like it and i came from an audi tts before that. I also found there to be a bit of lag when putting foot down, but only in the normal modes, seemed fine in sport and most of the time if i want sporty performance i will use the paddles and find the response pretty good. The sound could also have been better in my opinion, but i actually prefer it to the audi, which basically sounded normal until you changed gears at full pace and then got a massive bang. For what it is, a 2 litre engine, it sounds pretty decent especially if you know how to get the pops and bangs going - i think its probably a nice balance for those that want it sounding nice and those that would be put off by a proper sports exhaust. I'd have it louder personally, but don't dislike it.

Shame you dont get on with yours as much as you hoped.

I think that’s kind of what you are saying, but that you were expecting it when others perhaps weren’t.

Anyway, I’m in the soulless and boring camp - but I’m not massively surprised either.
I’ve had S3’s before and found them to be similarly lacking (4 pot / haldex / limited steering feel combo).
However, I bought the Formentor with a plan of forgiving it that as it looks great, has some great tech and kit and I’ve never had a Seat / Cupra.
The tech / kit is actually a big part of the reason that this is IMO worse than the S3 I had was - when they operate as they should the driving aids this has (and I’m sure a new S3 has them too, but my S3 was a few years back), sucks more of the life / excitement from the car.
The over complicated infotainment controls also lets the package down.

Oh and, unless you need a new crossover SUV with over 300 ponies, and a really small boot, you don’t have to spend anywhere near to the money you spend on a Formentor to get something with a bit of character that’s far from dull.
It’s nowhere near to the worst car I’ve had, and has some really big plus points, but it’s a bigger distance from the best.

Decent space for fishing gear yes, I don’t generally do loads of nights these days so masses of space for barrow etc not really required. I can fit everything I need inside with the back seats down. A decent amount of space available then. For a normal days fishing down the river or wherever it’s perfectly fine as well.
Will probably get some roof bars at some point as I’ve got a roof box we used to use for holidays. Always handy to stick some smelly stuff in on the way back from a French trip. The towbar will be useful for the bike rack. I wouldn’t have bothered specifying one from new as the Mrs’s car already has one but this was a stock vehicle I could nab in 3 weeks and it was already fitted so an added bonus. Looking forward to a few trips abroad as I think the car will be a decent long distance machine due to the comfort and quiet.

I never had a car that I hated, but some of the cars were rather disappointing. They were better on paper than in reality and Formentor is one of them. Spec sounds decent, 310ps, 4WD, sport modes, good equipment from factory. But the power has been muted by software and all driving aids. So maybe car with the same spec, produced 10 years ago, would be much more fun.

I had 2009 Scirocco, that had only 210ps, no 4wd, probably similar spec and I really liked that car. I was sorry to let it go after 3 years, when it became victim of 120 miles daily commute. There was no WLTP, no start/stop, no extra driving aids, just standard cruise which was an option. I don't remember comments on Scirocco forum, saying that's it's boring and soulless (except on MK2 forum, where they've seen MK3 as random VW car with the same name).

I'm afraid, it's a sign of current times, when fun is just killed in cars. When you read reviews of many new VW and Audi models, a lot of them complain about huge lag when changing gears, lag when accelerating, etc. It's a death by eco software. S4 and S6 petrol engines were killed by emission norms.

I've never really had a car with character, or what you'd consider a proper 'drivers' car, rear wheel drive etc, so it's hard for me to understand exactly what 'soulless and boring' is lol - lucky me!

It was pretty clear when looking at cars though that the general consensus would be that VAG cars generally fit into that category, especially modern ones with lots of driving aids and that is exactly what the Formentor is.

While I agree with you about modern cars, comparing it to a Scirrocco is not fair. Scirocco is a lowered Golf with less practicality, effectively a 4 seat coupe. I'm sure if Cupra built a lowered coupeesque variant of Leon it would have more "soul" than Formentor.

Formentor is almost the opposite, more practical/roomy version of Leon/Golf that goes after the popular crossover look.

I was comparing more on the spec and tech. I know Scirocco mk3 wasn't family car. But you could haul quite a load of stuf in it with folded seats. I used it couple of times to move stuff between the countries.

Soulless??? Boring??? Honestly......310bhp 4wd acc, practical. I know everyone is a lewis Hamilton/sabine schmitz on here but its a absolute laugh to drive. Non car people are always shocked by performance, always get comments on looks, I love it. So much negativity on here, if you expected a lambo urus experience then you should have footed up the £170k for one. I know I'll get slaughtered on here now because going against the ones that shout the loudest is not allowed, but as a 2 month owner of a 310 vz2 I can honestly say great car. I'll get ready for the whats you car experience questions and I've owned a veyron/la ferrari so I know what I'm on about statements. If your thinking of getting one go for it!!! Great car.
Well said mate. I'm in total agreement

I should have checked over but needed to get somewhere, however the travel assist shows up on dash as soon as turned on so they should have checked all systems as you say
Car back in today they had it for less than an hour and everything seems to be working. A trip down the motorway on way home and ACC behaving.

My tyre pressure loss fault turns out to actually be a sodding nail. Fixable luckily.
Not bad getting that after 2 weeks.
I just have had 20 odd punctures in the last 5 or 7 years. I ended up getting rid of a BMW a few years back as it was costing me more in tyres than monthly payments.
Odd that when I go to reset the pressures they’re all ok though, that doesn’t seem quite right. Should at least show a fault I’d have thought?
Hey ho.

There will be a sudden loss of pressure detected as the puncture occurs, but if the nail actually seals the hole (or as good-as) and the pressure is still acceptable, then the car doesn’t know any better following a reset.

I get that but it’s saying the pressures are acceptable BEFORE a reset not after which yes, I would expect that.
Every other car I’ve had would have noted that there’s a pressure difference so that’s a software bug right there.
Someone else will get a puncture sooner or later and either confirm or not I expect. I don’t believe I’m that senile quite yet

Just said update had not finished correctly thought that would have been obvious at first update attempt....all working so happy now!
Hi, so you were upgraded from 1790 to 1803? Has that resolved the issue with using ACC and overtaking cars on the motorway? Any other benefits you've noticed? If so may well book mine in before I go to Cornwall in July, its the only issue I have.

I always thought cruise control is good as long as it slows me down if the car ahead slows down and moves back to set speed when the distance with the car in front increases. I would not want the car to slow down as per the speed limit. People who are having issues is it only with ACC or is it with the standard cruise control as well?

There's no standard cruise, there's ACC only. Adjusting speed to signs can be switched on or off in options.

What we discussed here earlier, is that sometimes car thinks it's in Europe, and discovers the cars driving slower on left side and slows down Formentor, to avoid undertaking. I confirmed, that car does it on certain part of M25, checked it 2 days ago. Somewhere between J12 and J9.

Went from 1666 to 1672. ACC is working fine overtaking as it should,as it was before the initial upgrade. Not noticed any other benefits
