Shop around. I had quotes of £800, £840, £900 and £1000 for both.
The £800 was a mobile mechanic. Did a great job. I'm in the north west.
I've had a garage I've had do small jobs before quote me £500 parts and labour. I don't know how that's even possible. In all honesty I think the £1,300 part is just them not wanting to do it and so quoting an obscenely high rate so I just don't bother with them.
It sucks that there are no reliable garages around here (Brighton). So many people have their 'place' that they take all their big jobs to where they know they're good but cheap, but everyone round here just seems to take the piss.
It makes me so angry when I come across old invoices and see how much I've been charged in the past. Found one for my alternator today - £370 five years ago. I could do that now in about an hour, but they charged me £250 for labour.
