So pretty straightforward then! I didn't realise it would be that straightforward. I might even be able to clean the gunk out from the A/C buttons when that can of coke decided to spill all down the front.

I have a Sony head unit and the adaptor is black, so it makes sense to spray it all the same colour. Now to find out if I can get a decent finish...

Lol ive had my coffee spill down the vents/buttons too, worst cup holder ever

I’ve done same.
Had to use a can of electrical cleaner.
Freed up the sticking buttons.

Who'd have thought cleaning your steering wheel would be such an effective interior mod?

Ever since I owned the car, I just assumed Leon steering wheels were naturally shiny. Turns out that when you buy a fleet car, they're just generally driven by filthy beggars.

I should have done this years ago.

Just one of those magic erasers. They're like a cross between really fine sandpaper and a sponge. Some of the sites I checked said it could damage it, but nobody could actually say it did cause any, and in any case, I can just put some leather conditioner on if it's too dry.

That’s awesome! I have some of that in my kitchen cleaning supplies at home!

Same!

My dad has loads of them just sitting in his garage, so he gave me a load of them a few months back. I wasn't using them, but saw on Piston Heads or somewhere that someone recommended it. Thought it couldn't do too much harm, so gave it a go and no more shiny steering wheel.

I might put some leather conditioner on it, as it's noticeably more slippery than it was before, but at least it's not gloss black anymore.

This bothers me.

Is there any way I can fix this?

Oof... Nice...

Where did you get the gear lever from? Mine's worn around the edges - and also doesn't look like that.

It's a Seat Sport gearknob, I have the same one. Very hard to come by now and fetch strong money in good condition.

This is one of the most annoying things about the mk1’s.
I looked at quite a few before I bought mine 3 years ago and everyone of them was the same.
I got mine re trimmed. Like brand new now. I’ll post up a couple of pics tomorrow.

As Thai said it’s a SEAT Sport version. From back in the day.
This one is leather and ally.
They did carbon versions and a red leather top and ally version too.
I found this a while back on line from a shop in Spain.
Think I may have bought the last one of these anywhere.
Now going for upto 300 quid on the black market
Like the liquid gauges
Now asking 300 quid used for those too.

lancashire.
the common issue is the sticking drinks holder, using silicon spray with extension tube you get with it is to feed it down to bottom of it while open as there is a spring at bottom, this helps the spring return and mine was bad as i nearly changed it but works fine now
recon it the people driving while drinks are in holder that cause this problem as the headunit i got with car had buttons sticky, holder not designed for driving lol
