Coolant light back on...

So that's new rad, new expansion tank ruled out.

Noticed the level drops after 'spirited' driving much quicker than pootling around. Does this sound like anything in particular?

Really p1551ng me off now...

I wonder if you have a small crack in something that when not under pressure/heat is sealing just enough but under stress it opens enough to allow a leak but is getting boiled away ?
Have you tried one of those testers that checks for combustion gases in the coolant ?

I know the plastic water neck/thermostat housing's are a weak spot as is the water feed to/from the turbo, maybe put some dye in the coolant ?

Also read that the water pump is a fairly regular culprit. Would that loose more if the engine is hotter / under heavier load though?

No idea if related in anyway ?
Not Seat but I had a mini that would lose coolant and would show hot but not over heating , turned out that it had a plastic impeller on a metal shaft and that high engine loads the impeller would just spin on the shaft coolant loss was evaporation due to high temps caused by lack of water circulation.

Had a look around for possible causes of coolant loss. Felt round all hoses, felt dry, no coolant crust visible. Temp sender was seated nicely, again bone dry. When I opened cap there was a whoosh and the level rose back a fair bit. Noticed a few black specks in the new bottle (bits of inner hose? Old radiator?)

Checked oil filler cap, all good, no signs of milkiness

Fans working ok, both kicked in when I switched on the AC.

Coolant constantly flowing back in from top of reservoir too, so I’m guessing no blockages either.

Is this all pointing at knackered water pump?
