I think it's horses for courses, the most ideal would be Google Maps built in so it doesn't go blind and jump roads aided by the wheel revolutions. Had a few bad experiences with non built navigation going round the one way system of Luxembourg going through a tunnel missing the turn off. Did this one a fair few times each year - here we go again. Two miles latter... The tunnel turn offs are something you get in Europe. The going blind with standalone systems is obviously worse if you don't know where you are. Tend to think Google is good for commuter runs where you can react to road conditions. The integrated approach with the turns marked up with lane position as Here Maps is good for road trips. Saying that when wearing my navigator hat I use both systems.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago travelling from Basel airport (Swiss side) in a hire car going to Germany, and the same coming back! Nightmare!

Yeah, I like the built in for the centre dash display and robustness, used to have the built in navigation doing its thing as well as TomTom on the phone mounted on the right of the steering wheel, and chose which to believe as and when. Now I like Google Maps on Android Auto cos it lets me respond to SMS and WhatsApp messages etc, but then I have to decide Google Maps or Built in navigation, can't have both (MIB2, 2016). TomTom doesn't work on Android Auto but TomTom on Android Auto, utilising car sensors and the centre dash display would be ideal...

I quite like the alternative route ETAs that you get on GMaps, so you can go your preferred route if it doesn't look jammed. Waze didn't seem to do that.

Hmmm... I think Waze also takes into account the traffic conditions and makes it easy to re-route around incidents
Yeah, but GMaps indicates at junctions that you could go another route, a little comment box pops up with ETA X mins/secs longer. Waze and TomTom don't seem to do that, till you've taken the route then it recalcs and then you find out if you just headed to a jam or not... (I think anyway, could be wrong)

Another successful update from 0635 to 0915.
Followed (my own) guide in https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/navigation-system-updates.388586/page-31#post-4731938 and now my nav DB is happily running 0915 (beforehand it was upgraded from 0635 to 0820 - see post - if it makes any difference).

You do get the credit for that one. I see it distributed on other boards now. You don't have to do (4) which is the only rewrite required and step (0) take a back up copy before the reformat to be on the safe side :).

I've started to look for the June 2018 release for the Plus. They sometimes arrive on the VW servers the month before by picking out the download file direct. That's the other post last time round about October time where you match off your Seat infotainment unit with VW. Plus is the Discover Pro. See post 701 where I found a useful mapping table between VAG units. The VW Discover Media Generation 2 (MIB2Std) is the standard VW unit that matches the Seat 6P0 which vast number of you use.

Was just looking on the Skoda webpage for system updates and it has a banner stating "The last update was in November 2017, the next update is scheduled for August 2018" :headhurt::headhurt:

The Skoda ones are the same but get delayed so owners take VW ones which are the same earlier. So probably not surprising for Skoda to say that. I couldn't find the Plus one last night by enumerating the numbers up from 166 on the download site.

The direct link for the Non Pro which is the Non Plus for 2018 was this

http://vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/0915_MP171-1284.xEUR1.7z

So it's going to be some numbers up from 0915...

The Plus one for 2018 was this

http://vw.download.navigation.com/a...High2_Single_File_EU/P166_N60S5MIBH3_EU_NT.7z

Ditto for Plus some numbers up from 166.

That's how the Russians do it on their motoring sites ;).

Those links are to the Nov 2017 "2018" release for Mib2. The 0915 is the one mentioned by Notabenem in post 948 with the trustywork around, you can index back from there. The Plus one, 166, is the one I reference in post 699.

What we are waiting for now is the 2018/2019 one of both, officially in June of each year but known to arrive on VW servers the month before. It could be anytime now.

There is the official stuff on the Here Maps site which tells you to format the card to Fat32, directories etc. Skoda and VW have guides. These assume you have Mapcare. Most people here don't get into a mess as they do on other forums sites. Apple computers stick character rubbish on the downloads which then play havoc but this issue isnt reported much here so either more tech savvy or don't use Apple computers.

Here Maps Seat site:

https://hereshop.navigation.com/web...rral-EMEA&utm_medium=dropdown&utm_source=Seat

VW site, you pick a Golf 7 from 2015 for mib2, Discover Media is Seat standard, Pro is Plus etc.

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/how-to-guides/sat-nav

Radio logo will also work. Haven't tried them but people moan about missing ones or they delete them. Those are the ones you can replace any missing ones or ones not downloaded over the air.

As well as the map downloads. VAG also has a PC and MAC App that regularly checks for updates. This is mainly for Apple users to get a clean SD copy but availability is generally well after is available on the direct links. I had the Windows app loaded up but deleted it since you have to update it for each download so there wasn't any point.

Skoda have videos. All the same map updates just the units look different...

Basically there will be a new serial number above the ones we got, stick them in and we should be off within the next six weeks with the 2018/2019.

Can anyone help me with the below please?

I have a 2016 seat leon with the 6po media system, currently on 0730 maps and are looking to update - I’ve never done this before.
From what I gather I just need to back up my sd card, download the new maps and format my sd card then put the new maps on there?? My hardware is 041 also if that helps? If I’m right can someone point me to the latest map updates I can download please? Also from the recent posts is it worth me waiting for the newer maps before doing this? Thanks

EDIT* - also can I straight from 0730 to the latest version or do I need to do it in stages?

Yes you have a Mib2 standard unit that's defined by the 6P.

https://hereshop.navigation.com/pro...GBP;pgid=SnxSvdWt6lFSRpN7zhogxO2o0000zQU8u0Gv

The latest Maps are 2018 code 0915 but there will be the 2018 / 2019 in six weeks time or so if they come out to schedule. You can jump straight to that release if you have the 6P MIB2 system.

Take the copy from the Seat site

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/IN...me_campaign_light&&Page=VW_Europe_Media_MIB2&

Or direct from here

http://vw-mapscdn.tdd.adacorcdn.com/0915_MP171-1284.xEUR1.7z

Look at post 948 and 950.

Basically take a complete copy of the existing map card (Not an image copy), just the normal one onto your HD, files and directories. That's your fail safe. Then delete what's on the SD card. Unzip the download onto it with the same directory structure using 7zip. Then copy back that all important file from your HD as defined by stage 3

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/navigation-system-updates.388586/page-31#post-4731938

You don't need the original step 4, but you do need step 3 !. It should work.

Full credit goes to Notabenem for the steps... I justed edited them down into this below:

xxxx old version
yyyy new version

0. Take a complete back up of the existing map card to the hard disk
1. Reformat the SD card that had xxxx on it
2. Copy the freshly dowloaded yyyy version to the SD card (with 7zip preferably to unpack) same file structure needs to be kept, not one down etc.
3. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with old one from your HD backup

Should be fine. Bearing in mine I got a Plus unit I've never done this process myself but know how it works :). You might get away with using Windows zip unpack but if there are issues use 7zip.
