actually vw have announced they are dropping this engine when they bring out all the new mk of vw/seat/audi/skoda so no lol. Apparently the new cthe engine code has fixed the previous problems although I know of people that have had them fail but I also don't know if they were actually these engines or they just assumed they had them since their car was made in 2013. Spoke to someone the other day that swore he had the CTHE(car less than 6months old) and then started to get oil consumption, turned out it said CTHE in his handbook but CAVE on the engine block itself. Seems vw used the rest of the stock up first phasing it out rather than just discontinuing the old CAVE and replacing with the CTHE.

Well that's a bit cheeky!

Anyone know the easiest way to confirm what the engine code is? Or the location of it on the block?

I'm assuming it will be underneath the cover........

no, the battery in the boot came before the CTHE engine was out. Theres a plaque on the engine itself, cant remember quite where but its black with silver writing on, not in a place thats hard to reach though.

For anyone wondering where the engine codes are, I just took these from my son's car (mid-November registered Cupra on a 63 plate)

On the black sticker on the driver's side wing alongside the VIN etc:-

It's also on a sticker on the side of the block itself under a breather hose. It's difficult to see yourself, I could only read this by placing my phone next to some pipes and taking a picture from next to it. It should say "CTH" or "CAV"

i have a 2013 cupra (from May) and more or less every 2000km i take it to seat to restore the oil level.
i made those tests... weigh the oil do 500km and then weigh again... and now it's being analyzed by seat factory from spain (i'm from Portugal).
wondering what they will say...

What engine do you have? Is it a CAVE or CTHE ?

When I first got my cupra it was using maybe a litre every 1000 miles or so, but now, with just over 10000 on the clock, it uses virtually none at all.

If you look at the sticker on the block on the right of the big C it has what looks like a build date and time.
My Sons was registered March 2013 and the date on the sticker is 12.11.12. Its a CTH.
It used about 3.5 litres before the first service at 10000 miles. It has now done 12100 miles and used about 250 mil since service.

Mines as 2010 cupra, had it serviced 5 weeks ago and I've checked the oil tonight, it was at the bottom of the stick, I've only done just over 1000 miles and don't hit it hard everywhere it's mostly dual carriage way miles. I bought 3rd party protection with the car with the AA as the car was out of warranty. Will this help with my problem or has anybody got any advice please? Reading through this thread and it seems depending on your dealer they can be very helpful or totally blank you!

Just ask? You wont know unless you try. But i would never leave mine five weeks before checking the oil anyway, i check mine every time i fill the tank up at the petrol station and keep a bottle in the boot!
