PD170 Stuttering Problem Solved

OK guys, EGR cleaned, it was caked in 10mm deep cr*p but no different, so car is going into a local diesel specialist in 2 weeks time, will let you know what happens.

i kno the cause of both stuters on the pd 170 :)


one is the boost at higher rpm with foot down


and the other is a

SECRET

i think ther is only a handfull of peopel that kno what the idle stuter is and i have finally found out :)

put it this way if a specialist does not have vag-com or vcds he carnt set it up properly no matter what mechanical tool he uses

Hi, my stutter is not on idle its under 2,000 rpm and only when not at full operating temp. and gentle acceleration.
Are you gonna let this answer be kown then?????

i adjusted my cam timing

vw will just lock your timing with ther tools and say its spot on but its not you would be suprised how far timing can be out with teh slightest movement on the cams



if you atempt this on your own do lots and lots of reading i wont be to blame if your piston smashes into your valves


my car has neva run so good also feels like i have more power

The other strage thing with my car when it did stutter in 1st and 2nd

it would do it on the road when i was trying to drive steadily ie accelerating smootly

But on the 1/4 mile i would plant my foot and no stutter lol

If the newer cars are mapped like the older tdi's you will find the the egr valve actually shuts itself off fully when under full throttle to give the engine optimum power by using only fresh air not recycled air. This is why when you do 1/4 miles flat out you dont get stutter, whereas when driving normally the Egr valve is open to recycle the exhaust gases. When tuning companies map out a standard egr valve the program is to be completely closed all the time meaning no exhaust gas's at all!

So how would you explain stuttering still being there with EGR removed from the intake manifold and replaced with straight pipe

I got my throttle body changed as it was leaking. Now runs smoother. Apparently a common problem with this engine type on golfs too.

the harsh stuter under full load is caused by boost hiting a limiter at 27psi wen the car is remaped its making 26psi so if the car overboosts ther is no room to allow for the overboost so hits the 27psi limiter and causes the car to drop boost back to safe level and then requests 26psi again and with such a fast spooling turbo and sudent request for boost it again overboosts and stuters again

What bore size exhaust are you guys running and are they straight through exhausts? Just could we not add a little back pressure in the exhaust to help reduce boost spike? What about fitting a boost controller or is it not an option for some reason?

i can map the stutter out for way less than any mods you could do to try and prevent it


any one mapping these cars should be able to map it without any stutter at any psi if they don't know what is making the car stutter then i would question there knowledge in mapping the ppd 1.2 ecu

After reading this I'm ordering the gasket I've noticed a stutter on light driving up to 2000rpm

I had slow speed cruising almost hiccup like small stutters and full load turbo disappearing then reappearing stutters. Gasket didn't help. Manifold actuator had a hole in it, both stutters gone now. Not to go off topic but worth considering if the gasket doesn't help in your case.

I rarely have this situation, but when It does do that I thought it was the DPF releasing the smoke out?

I'm sorry if it's a really novice question. But would you notice if the car was releasing the smoke out of the DPF like a drop in power for a second?
