Car needs a service - 2009 FR TDI, 25k miles: Should I go for a minor service or major? Difference is £149 for minor or £249 for major - really dont want to pay £250! :(

I have got a little tab which was put inside my Cupra by Seat at its last service and they've said on it "cam belt due for change at 32k miles".. I think they're taking the piss to be honest, anyone else agree?

How old is the car? It's time or mileage, whichever comes 1st. Wouldn't be the 1st time a Seat garage have taken the piss tho lol

The car is an 07 plate, but has only covered 30,400 miles

Well im sure it's meant to be done at 4 years so if it hasn't been done I would be doing it personally. Belts perish over time, and even if the car only does short journeys it still does lots of heat cycles. As it's effectively holding the engine together I wouldn't chance it.

Just had another spin in the Leon now that traffic has dies.

Omg...the new map tweaks are amazing!
Extra bonus, almost all smoke gone.

Much faster, revs much easier, not as aggressive in low load (works out well for 1st and 2nd gear in launch)

Need to get it dyno'd again.

4 years or 60k miles I believe.

This is correct I just had my 3rd year service and I have the receipt sleeve thing and it has on it maintenance prices and its says "Cambelt Change (including tensioners, every four years or recommended mileage, whichever occurs soonest) Petrol £279/ Diesel £349"

That seems like a very good price.

Anyone???

I thought people had responded above?

Don't risk it, yeah it may be £250 now, but it could save you a hell of a lot of money if the belt failed. You would be looking at a hefty repair bill. It is recommended that it's done at 4 years, even if you haven't done many miles.

Yeah I think its 'due' the major service i just begrudge paying £250 :'( that could be a remap for me!

I've got 32000 on mine. £249 major service. Taking it in first week of next month.

It's only at £128 at cost price...scandalous.
Thats just ridiculous, I bet someone's rolling in money lol
