Apparently the stereo has caused problems. Also because I removed the sound proofing (because it was going mouldy AGAIN).

The water has come in through the scuttle and because no sound proofing was present the water dripped on the coils and ignition and shorted it. I voided my warranty by removing the sound proofing.

Also there is a software update needed, that seat haven't even developed yet. So god help anyone who develops this fault because they won't have their car fixed for months.

Surely you could argue the sound proofing is.....sound proofing and not a water barrier for their poor design. The mould could be a health issue if being drawn into the cabin?

Can you put it back on and take it to another garage?

In one breath they are saying that then admitting there's a fault with a software update.
I'd be taking it further. They need to prove that that's the fault and how it was caused.
If they say water has shorted it out I'd still say either a coil pack or a plug hole full of water.

Jarre, that is shocking!!! They wouldn't work half as hard if they just helped out instead of looking for excuses not to help!!!

I must admit that my dealership is totally the opposite, they've fixed things that they said other dealers would find an excuse to get out of or charge the earth - they go out of their way to keep my costs down and keep me happy (they even have it on file exactly how i like my car cleaned when they have it in). Obviously the exception as opposed to the rule - lets hope Seat UK don't find out.

Easy:

1.Water was dripping into the bay previously

2.You went to get it fixed under warranty

3. Mould had developed again and water was dripping from the sound proofing and you removed it.

Therefore the warranty fix was ineffective and flawed. I don't see how they can say this is your problem.

100% Liverpool have passed on the modifications details to Seat UK. Seat UK would have wanted to know why you where swapping dealerships when they got the case number. There is no reason for IMG to void the warranty as they GET PAID for doing the work regardless. In this current climate there is no way they would refuse money for a job. Sadly it seems your fate was already decided before you headed to a proper dealership to get it sorted out.

What action needs to be taken now?

Mention the flawed warranty fix and take pictures of the mouldy insulation. It isn't designed to catch water.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a dealership is obliged to prove that a problem has been casued by a modification.

Out of interest, do all models have the soundproof?

Exactly, dealerships get paid for it, refusing to do something just because they can not be bothered blows the mind. Then again they are probably getting too much money out of the poor buggers they screw over

Hope everyone is well. I just got back yesterday from Germany and I can't believe theres no snow.

Anyway on the drive back I was bored as Its a long drive. I always carry fuel cans in my boots. So I thought I'd do a test in my 2007 cupra. I have never tried to find out how much I can get out of a tank of fuel. So I was driving at 120kph/75mph ish, motorway all way. I got 435miles and I still didn't run out even though I was on red for ages so I must have been close. It was the last stop for a while so I filled up. Just thought I'd tell you all haha I feel my car did well the other day on mpg :) first time for everything. Oh and I was running on v-power all the way. Also I didn't go over 3k revs in any gear and didn't accelerate to the speed limit.

When you get her home find someone to plug in vcds and share the codes mate.
It shouldn't be difficult to fix, show these crap dealers up for what they really are.

I assume you don't have an engine cover protecting your coils Jarre?

If it wasn't such a **** design it wouldn't have happened. I feel for you :(

Just got back now, took 2 and a half hours from Warrington so not too bad. Car was okay, went 60 most of the time and up to 70 down hill. Uphil it had no power and was down to 40mph over the Pennines in places!
