I have read on the interweb that Vauxhall remove the ECU from any car they suspect has been electronically tweeked and send it off to thorney motorsport for them to investigate :)
.

Biting the hand that feeds you, very clever work from thorney motorsport. If the Vx crowd had any sense they would boycott them :hole:

I'd definitely go for a 335d if you're looking for not only power but also size; however, if you want to tune and speed, like you stated, the 135i is perfect. I just love that car and I wish we had it where I live. To be honest, though, I think it's way too small even for long rides, it's only good for track or short city rides. And I am assuming its resale value is crap.

The only thing about the 335d that appeals to me is that engine :)

Interior hasn't changed much since the e46...

Doesn't make it a bad or ugly interior, though. I actually love the interior and dashboard of both the E46 and the new 3-series BMWs. I don't know if the one you're looking at comes with iDrive and the brown plastic material thing on the inside, but this looks awesome:

With some minor modifications on the inside, like the M steering wheel, gear knob, etc., you can make it one of the hottest interiors in the market.

And this is the interior of the new 3 Series F30:

Looks stunning and of course has brilliant materials and quality inside, which BMW has always been known for. The highest is 330d, though, with a 3.0L 262 PS and 560 N-m engine that does 0-100km/h in a nice 5.6 seconds.

Im not gonna lie im very tempted my an M3, not the fastest in a straight line but OMG look at this http://ind-distribution.com/blog/?p=5 i bet it looks even better in the flesh aswell.

Id prob just go with the Alloys, some nitron suspension, no doubt arches rolling and the front and rear spoiler(shorter version) and some red toe eyes with an agressive geo setup and it would be immense! Wouldnt be able to afford the supercharger though

Red roll cage and some recaro pole positions would finish the interior.

Would perform similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Pk6F91UfM&list=UUJlmJ6tasEKurYZuPAmZ5Wg&index=1&feature=plcp

I think it's very clear you are a
BMW fan , and you won't have a bad thing said about them , but the posts people have made are very valid.

Yes, I am a BMW fan, and I truly hope that doesn't offend you or anyone else? Dav was asking for opinions and I gave him mine, whether he likes it or hates it is definitely up to him and I have nothing to do with it; as they say, everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Buying a BMW is one of my short-term goals, but I'll need to finish university and get a stable job first as one of the downfalls of buying a BMW where I live is the running costs. The maintenance, service, and spare parts are very, very expensive and I'd have to have sufficient income to be able to pay them off. That's not to mention the bad resale value, although the 3-series really holds its value over here quite well, while the 1-series, 5-series, and X-series models really drop when you sell them.

I've started thinking already though I've a year till I sell...

I was all for going for a cupra r but for some reason now thinking about an Evo x 330. I'm not sure if it's the 4wd or the fact I'll be looking to spend a bit more this time and not being happy with the Seat dealers I've used..
Plenty of time yet to change my mind, what I'd like is to test drive a cupra r with a remap though I'm not sure many dealers do that :D

Severe lack of decent independent specialists up this way or businesses dedicated properly to something other than jap sadly.

It's a shame that when vag bought seat they didn't overhaul the dealers at the same time , I have used all the dealers in my local area (25 mile radius) and they are all truly shockingly bad !
I think that's a definate influence on buying my next car but how do you test drive a dealer???????

Have you managed to find an R yet - or have you ordered new? Finding a good example at the right money is proving tricky. I have about £15/16k plus my car to spend. I went to see one at SSC a few weeks ago that was a shed after just 2yrs.

Guess you'll be keeping Steve busy! *cough* Loba? *cough*

Yes I'm picking the Golf .:R up on Thursday this week.

Very good spec, mint condition, only 5K miles on the clock. one owner who only changed because they had one kid and twins on the way and the dealer he bought it from he sold it back to!

Steel Grey (my 1st choice colour)
DSG
More doors
Sunroof
Leather
Satnav with bluetooth
Dynaudio
front and rear parking sensors (for the wife!!)
19" silver Talladega's
Still have the lions share of the Warranty left, but that will be invalid once I know the car has no running issues.

I got a VERY good trade in and then also nailed over £1k off the asking price too.[B)]

However I do have about £6k of mods off the Polo GTI to sell:doh:

If you were buying a car to tune run on a track and do the 1/4 mile you have me sold , but that's not the whole story of owning such a car , from your previous hold threads it's on oohs you have the funds to do what you want to a car and not really worry about warranties.

After my experience of trying to get a non modified car repaired through dealerships modding a new car with 1/4 mile running gear and mods attached it would almost certainly be in possible to get warranty work honoured.
There is a guy on one golf forum who has bought a brand new edition 35 golf dsg and after a month or so complained to the dealer that his gearbox was playing up , he lived with it , got his car mapped by one the the top 2 tuners (swerves can of worms debate phew !) the gear box fails and VW investigate the car to find said map on his car and invalidate his whole warranty , which is now logged on their database , after some fighting he got his gearbox repaired but his warranty is still void.
PeoPle gamble on discrete mods for warranty claims but unless you have a very sympathetic dealer things look a lot harder to work honoured when mods are
Obvious.

I can see your point, but I buy my cars to modify/improve them. I reckon most people on here will do too at some point. Also peeps will keep their cars beyond warranty and parts will wear and need replacing at some point, so modifying then would be a good option and a decent "base" car is the pre-requisite. Some Golf .:R's are just coming out of warranty now too, so I'd guess bigger drops in prices for these cars will mean more will take the plunge.
Yes, it is expensive, but I think they are worth it, especially after they have already taken the £10-15k price hit from new on the second-hand market.

There are gems out there, but there are also some nails!! Caveat Emptor guys;)
