Redbull, I would love to but car goes in the workshop on the 15th so unless it's out before then, then the V2 it may have to be. Although after reading up on the net a lot of the Audi boys not liking the materials used as they prone to cracking.....also as the head is off will be so much easier to do :)

Dolby are you on the Relentless fb page? Another V2 has cracked while a car was being mapped, Jaimi's LCR. He's gutted.

I would not risk this one bit. Poor quality, they can't handle the weight of the turbo, and snap. Why upgrade if it's poor quality? No ta.

Yeh buddy I saw it. Very scary.

Just wondered really as the head is off I may aswell get the manifold, but nopey this can wait. I'm sure the car will be plenty fast enough when boost turned up.

I spose it was just for 'pub talk'.........."yeah I got a new exhaust manifold too" etc etc. ;)

Exactly, yes it may give you a bit more but the OEM one won't break... Your car will be fast enough.

I just belted mine round Brands Hatch on Wednesday and it was very quick as it's setup now. Just a well setup stage 2. Yeah sure do the rods and what not for peace of mind that's cool, but I wouldn't run one of those mani's myself. All I read is it's broken. And for the V2 'updated' one to go, just shows that clearly not enough r&d has gone into making a more reliable product. Will the V3 be any better? Who knows, but it's a risk..

Any links to the broken manifold setup. One of the Audi guys (Prawn) has just returned from the ring after giving his car hell around there and the manifold held up fine (he did apply additional welds around the stock welds). As with all K04 cars its wise to run wmi which keeps my egt's sub 800 degs. Hoping V3 finally gets there in quality terms and the pink elephant that is the K04 manifold has a rock solid performer. Personally Dolby i would still fit one as the car runs cooler and revs easier with one fitted, as previously advised i would defo supplement the welds like Bill did with mine using high nickel welding rods. The stock mani suffocates the lcr at the power levels a good stage 2 motor puts out.

Long time viewer of this thread but first time poster.

Well done on getting the project back on track after all your bad luck, and hitting it so hard.

Looking forward to the big engine updates.

Up until today i was adamant that i was going to get this manifold, was reading up and reading up, review after review was generally quite bad etc. But you know what? I still wanted to get one....but was told today its not just the heat cycles going through it, more that the manifold doesnt sit right and the fitment is atrocious.

As the head would be off anyway, i was hoping to get a few more extra welds on there and all would be fine and dandy. But if im truly honest the manifold is just too cheap. How will it cope in our extrem winter when the engine heat gets to 950 degrees and quickly cools in (-15 degrees that we sometimes get here)...It will expand and crack like crazy.
If/when this happens i assume the head has to be taken back off? As the fitment is very tight indeed. Just seems a lot of expense for something that should work in the first place.

TBH i just wanted to have 300bhp minimum on a ko4 that will never dip below this number on any dyno in the uk lol.

Was looking at the 034 motorsport one too, and the JBS but their is virtually nothing on the net worthwhile about them. So tempted by the TSR one but ive read a story about that one too which isnt a good one, and plus that is around £900 too.

The JBS one Bill test and the results where poor. The other option is to have a standard manifold porter.

Prawns v1 did crack but was 2nd hand. Someone else added welds to his V2.

Brett, it's not all about having 300bhp mate, you'll be there or there abouts on a full stage 2 and it will have a reliable manifold. Just enjoy the car it's got good trick mods now for track abuse and you need to get it out there.

Wouldn't bother with the mani. If you want more than peak stage 2 power you WILL want a diff. That's another grand. 300bhp is loads through the front wheels.

It is not easy to fit in situ but not too bad with the head off. You have to cut your heat shield to accomodate it and it does sit the turbo slightly different from stock but no biggy. If your not going to fit a mani which is understandable consider investing in a wmi kit which is well worth the investment. :)

Bret its a shame the v3 is not ready. The manifold is easy to fit with the head off. I have an idea, as you know we are beefing up the welds, but seeing as its a bargin of a price, why not get some support braces made (like the v3) this will be even stronger again. Nick prawn v2 with beefed up welds survived 4 laps at the ring one after another and all lap times way below 9 mins, doesnt get better testing than that. I will get you some pics of the braces if you want? Its a shame to pass this up when your head is coming off.

Yes mate it does sit flat to the head with no fouling, but one exhaust stud needs trimming which is simple to do. Alex can modify the heat shield so that it clears that. i did mine in situ mate so Alex with it on the bench will find it easy.
When the v3 becomes available Sam i would consider selling the modified heat shield as part of the package which will simplify installation no end. Having seen the V3 it looks that less will be required to be removed from the heat shield.
I believe that excessive expansion causes these to crack because the turbo support bracket does not allow the turbo to move as the mani expands. This is why i only part secured the turbo to its support bracket.
Sometimes Dolby you have to grow a set to realise the potential of your motor, i've always taken the leap and reeped the rewards but sometimes had my fingers burnt too. tough call for you.

the V2 ones I have seen fit the head ok. just one stud needed shortening thats all.
as for the comment re the weight of the turbo, thats not the case if you continue to use the existing support bracket on the turbo, as this supports its weight, in OE form also.

those thinking stock k04 turbo on stock k04 exhaust manifold will break 300bhp, you are expecting too much.

stock k04 ex mani also cracks..... there is no "safe" uncrackable solution.

I am not aware of any reinforced welded V2's having cracked yet.. Any pictures of where this other one has cracked to compare? It would be very usefull to see the failure point.

@what wild willy said i recommend fitting the oem turbo bracket, the manifold should not take the weight of the turbo.

Bill i have not seen a reinforced manifold crack yet :)
