Yes i fully intend on part exchanging my 1.6 Leon and getting a TDI FR! Anyway, as i dont want to loose any more money on the trade-in i have a few problems that mr car dealer will happily knock £'s off that i would like to fix, obviously doing it myself as much as possible. Also, i dont want anyone to buy this car and have a load of problems, karma people!
Problem 1, Central locking doesn't work. I need a new key, and the whole re-programme job! Any ideas on cost? Before anyone suggests a new battery in the fob...the fob is actually broken. Also, when i open the car manually with the key, only the front two doors unlock and sometimes only one of them will do so, leaving the alarm still on, so when i get in......
I have to fanny around unlocking doors in different combinations (drivers, then passengers, then try and turn the alarm off by holding the key in there etc etc..)
Problem 2, The iconic, classic and legendary water in the footwells. I have fixed this before when it has been the seals, following the brilliant guide on here. Now though, this problem is where water has somehow soaked the drivers footwell and ran into the footwell behind.
Obviously we have had a delguge of rain in some parts of the country, so i just poured two watering can's full of water over the car and nothing got in. Maybe that test was a little inconclusive as it was only two watering cans, i'll try it again tomorrow.
3 months ago, i had the passenger footwell soaked with washer fluid which had leaked in, i got that fixed but now there's this problem! I dont think it's the door seals, but it could be.
I am rather hopeless at DIY so would appriciate some 'tests' i can do? Like the watering can.
Problem 3, Cigarette lighter won't pop out. Obviously before sat nav this wouldnt have been much of an issue especially if the owner is a non smoker too! Anyway, that's a £40 job. (Got that quoted when the washer fluid leak was fixed)
Problem 4, My door handle won't sit flush. When it was really cold 2 years ago my car froze shut, so me being me, used brut force and got the door open. In doing that i pulled the handle too far so it won't sit back how it used to.
I got that quoted at £300! New door, new locking unit and paint. I'll have to swallow that one, but obviously he wont know it's a £300 job! (I hope)
Problem 5, The cd player doesn't work! It had been cutting out and playing parts, then going silent etc...
Now, when i press it to come on, it just says "MAGAZINE" or "CHANGER" I have the 6 disc changer in the glovebox.
These in my opinion are all pretty serious grounds for knocking a lot of money off, the service history isn't 100% and it's a 12 year old car!
Apart from that it is in very good condition for the age, i do know how to wash a car well, and have a porter cable, so i might touch it up a bit before i go to view any cars.
Any general advice people? It's been a LONG time since i posted on here last. I was saving for an LCR in the past and believe it's in my signature!
