off to get a pair of 5w bulbs
You do that! And I'll be sure to take a lot of pictures if I do the conversion proper! :)
My main problem is that I havn't got a place/garage to get some work done. And this time of year there tends to be meters of snow and tens of degrees below freezing.. :(

Been thinking about building a house+garage though, Might crack on with the plans..! ;) I'd get a lot more value for money if I buy an older house, but then I don't get it as I want.
I think I could get pretty much what I want with a budget of £350k.

So I'm interessted in getting some 18" cupra r wheels.
New from dealer they'll cost £3500 up here!! :confused::blink:

Great thread Poliq, I'm a big fan of the smoked rear lights on the black Leons, looks good! I don't know what possessed you to do that with your rear fogs and have them as running lights but it worked out very nice, well done!

this plan might help you
:lol: Yeah that'd be great! ;)

Love the look.

Get some rear 10mm spacers and should set off look nicely. I dont like the eyebrows :(

I miss my old car!
Thanks jonjay!
Rear spacers is defo on the to do list.
As for the eye brows I think that they give the lights a slimmer look, making the car look meaner. From a distance its all fine, but from up close I get/share your point. Might have to be reconsidered. Maybe I'll just have to sit and stare at it for a few minutes! :)

I think the smoked rears look good as well, but I must admit I've been playin' around with the thought of some lamin-x, We'll see what happens.

As for the "Quad rear lights mod" this is just a test setup.
But I can also tell you that I have startet with the proper conversion, pre-made all the cables with connectors last night, bought bulbs and ordered new sockets today. I have taken the lamp holders out of the car, and hopefully will get them properly modded some time before next weekend. Planwas to modify them rather than replacing them, but we'll see witch will be better. Maybe a little of both! :)

When done I plan on making a "how to"/guide so others can do it as well :)

Theres a huge festival coming up next week, so I'm not planning on going anywhere near a car!! ;)
The festival attracts some 80,000 people every year, you can read a bit about it here:

Bad news!
Plan was to do the proper conversion this weekend, but the sockets won't be around before friday. As I think that the swap will need some time and work before beeing complete, I guess I just won't have the time to get them done in another few weeks. :(

Also I tried to do the math on this.. Was looking in the owners manual (and the .pdf copy LEE69 has linked to), still not sure what circiut the rear running lights are hooked up to.

Code:
P=UxI
5=12A
A=5/12
Meaning each extra 5W bulb will draw an additional ~0,42A, or ~0,83A in total.
If it's on the brake light circiut, that's an 10A, and there will be no problems. Otherwise, there are no circuits fused lower than 5A, and I think it should be ok anyway, thinking of the brake lights that draw 3,5A (+the LED bit(couldn't be to much)A) and they're on a 10A circuit.

Would be sweet if anyone could confirm wich circuit they are on!

Started looking into other alternatives too, as in modding the excisting socket.
This would cause a few problems as shown below..

201202152105222.jpg

Iwould need to break the existing circuit, insulate the spring, and make or fasten the second contact point.

Then theres the bulb themselves. I could just grind off the guiding tap, but I''m afraid that would result in a loose fit.

20120215214225.jpg

Alternative two is to try and modify the groove for the tap, but I think it would be difficult..

201202152106112.jpg

Conclusion here is to try to cut the whole thing out, replacing it with one of another type. This option would require less work, and chances are that the results will be better. Main consern here is reconnecting to the metal circuit, as I have no idea of the solderability of the mentioned metal.

Been thinking about bulding my own debadged honey comb grille. Been looking all over, but haven't found anything close to it. Don't want to swap for a random looking mesh either...

Edited by me! (not good, but you get the idea.)

Had a lot of work done to the car on friday! Completed the quad rear running lights mod, write up here: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=344820.

Even though it took quite a effort I'm super happy with the result.
Also removed the rear wiper while I had the plastic covers off!

That duct tape won't be there for long of course! ;)

Also test fitted some smoked side repeaters, not a 100% fit, but you get the idea. Think I have to get some as I think it looked rather nice! :)

As I recieved it yesterday, I thought it was about time I got this done!! ;)

First I had to take off the inner plastic trim on the hatch. again. :blink:
Then I test fitted it;

The size of the thing seemed about perfect!
Then I had to whas and rinse the area with the stuff that came with it, before I added glue and pressure! ;)

Results were good imo!

What do you guys think?

Slowly I'm getting where I want with the looks of this car. Still a few things to be done though, such as more debadging of the rear, window tinting, and I'll maybe even have a go at tinting the rear lights as well. Oh! And that chrome SEAT badge kinda ruins my color scheme... ;)

Yeah I know I suck but heres an idea:

Is that really a good idea with your weather conditions and the amount of crap that goes on the rear screen?

Yep. I never used it. Except for the one time I accidentally turned it on. True story! Rear wipers are not that needed IMO, all they do is make scratches! :)

Guess I'll have to rephrase my question then;
How do you guys think it look? :)
