Add me to the list! Seat Altea XL pd170. I asked the dealer that the ECU was mapped and he simply they wont touch that!

My Wife has a Freetrack and will get her to check tonight!

Quick question what will happen if one injector fails? Whats the damage?

Just called Seat UK to enquire about replacement Injectors for my 2008 Leon FR TDi and they've said to get it booked in at my local dealer and they will be done free of charge!

Good news :D

Huge thanks to everyone on here, I wouldn't have even attempted to ask if I hadn't read up about it.

Hi everyone. I have Seat Leon FR170 2007 and I decided to call SEAT Customer Service myself to find out if my car needed the injectors replacing.

After I gave them my REG they said that yes it is one of the cars affected and that I shouldn't worry as it's not a safety issue as such, but just a courtesy service they are changing them as many have been failing. They said when they fail your power steering and brakes should all still work fine but the car will lose power? (different to what some people on here have said..)

Anyway I was told to ring my local SEAT dealership to get it booked in for the Injectors to be replaced. They said this would all be free of charge (including a courtesy car for the day).

So I have booked it in for 16th Jan. The dealership said they were aware of the issue and they will do all the work no problems.

So when I have had it done I will write another update on here to say how the car feels after.

I should add that I haven't actually had any issues with the car at all, but I thought I would see if they need changing anyway after reading this thread!

Just a quick update from me..

I had my Injectors replaced yesterday by Hidsons SEAT in Rainham, Kent. Dropped it down there 8am and they gave me a courtesy car to drive to work and back in. They said they will ring when it's done, which they did at around 3pm.

Collected the car yesterday evening. The only thing I wasn't too happy with was they didn't give me any paperwork to say it's been done. I asked them for some sort of receipt, so I could have evidence the work was carried out, but they said they need to send all the paperwork off to SEAT, so I should ask them. Anyway I made a note of the milage and the date so will write it in my service records myself. But I will also give SEAT customer services a ring later to ask if they can send me some receipt of some kind.

As for how the car runs, I haven't noticed any difference at all yet. But I have only driven it twice. Maybe the MPG will improve slightly over time (as some others have mentioned it did for them), but I will wait and see.

Anyway thanks again for everyone who added to this thread. I'm relieved I don't have to drive the car waiting for the Injectors to fail on me anymore!

Had mine replaced all 4 and a loom, runs the same, same MPG but does sound different starting from cold maybe a second more on the key with a different note to it.

Mine went in mapped came out mapped for those who may be worried ragarding mapped cars was never asked about it and id of said no anyway.

Car back now. No real difference in MPG. 4 injectors and loom. Did not touch the ECU. I asked how much would it of cost £800 was the reply.

Will have to put my wifes car in now (Freetrack)

On a side note is £299 for a cambelt change a decent price. A water pump will cost between £20-40 pounds so worst case £339.00 all in? Is this correct this was a Seat dealer price!

New forum member and (hopefully) soon to be a first-time Seat Leon owner. Hoping to buy this car from a local dealer in the next week:

Seat Leon FR TDI 170 (56 plate)

(The forum wouldn't let me post a link, but Google "Albert Abbott Motors" in Northampton if you're interested!)

Thought I'd do a bit of research and glad I did. The car fits the bill as something that may suffer from the problems experienced by other forum members, concerning the injectors and the loom (not sure what that is).

So... is this something I should be worried about, or could I buy with confidence knowing that SEAT have recognised the problem and will put it right free of charge? It's at the limit of my budget so I really couldn't afford any costly repair bills on top.

It drives well, has a full SEAT service history and has had the cambelt done already.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Welcome to the forum Tim,

I am sure that the injectors would have or will be rectified if they are ones being recalled. I cant think of anything major at the moment about Fr's but best asked if the water pump was changed at the same time as the cambelt! I dont think it is a standard thing on the cambelt change with Seat as it was offered extra to the £299.00 they were offering to do mine after four years.

I know sometimes tracking is an issue so full alignment could be done before ownership of the car as you may have to change your rears. You get a thing called a 50p effect on your tyres and you will be hit with two new tyres. Trust me the noise is unbearable!

Just a couple of pointers I am sure there are many more!

Ok cool, thanks for the super quick reply.

The water pump was done at the same time as the cambelt, so at least there's not that to worry about. Is getting the tracking checked something that the dealer is likely to be happy/obliged to do, or does it depend very much on the dealer?

I'll ask if they know if the injectors have been changed. If not, I'll take it to the local Seat garage and see what they say.

Also... does the model I'm looking at have a DPF filter? If so, am I going to get into trouble doing mostly town driving?

Ok, thanks. So... (and I'm sorry if this is a daft question) say I'm driving it 10 mins to and from work every day (slow inner-town roads), would it be enough to keep the DPF happy by doing a 20-30 min dual carriageway trip once a week?

Ok. From the sounds of it, I'd be better at avoiding a DPF altogether and going for a petrol, giving the type of driving I'm doing. Shame, cos the pulling power of the diesel was very grin-inducing! :eek:)

If you want a TDI Leon and want to do town driving get the newer CR170 09-Onwards that engine is better suited to the DPF

Just a comment on some of the recent posts and an update from me....

Our PD170 is used almost exclusively town driving and each journey it gets 5-10mins of dual carriageway in a 30-35min trip. In more than 2 years we've never had a DPF issue and only once were we aware that a regen was taking place. We've also never had any problems with injectors but, as I posted earlier, we simply booked the car into the local Dealer and they changed all 4 and the loom (timmah1980; it's the wiring that supplies the injectors) free of charge. Courtesy car also supplied FOC.
The car runs brilliantly and contrary to my earlier post, although there is no apparent difference in running, we're definately getting better mileage.
Typically before we'd get around 35mpg for town driving but having checked it a lot since the injectors were done we've got an average over 12 tanks of 38.2mpg. As you can tell, the loud pedal does tend to get used!
I reckon if we went into 'economy mode' we could easily hit the 40mpg around town.
