Meh that time of year again sadly :(

Driving to work...started to speed up building up the revs and suddenly (Chokes...) loss of power, still driving but yea...

Got to work and turned the car off, trying to start it back up again (it will kick into life but not on the first tick). Car is idling fine no cough no signs of misfire.

As soon as I got home error codes...

3 Faults Found:
008598 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Signal too High (Rich)
P2196 -- 004 -- No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

008852 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Open Circuit
P2294 -- 002 -- Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON

008580 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor on Radiator Outlet (G83): Signal too Low
P2184 -- 001 -- Upper Limit Exceeded
---
Saved the error codes then I wiped the codes...Took it out again for a evening drive.

1 Fault Found:

008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Mechanical Malfunction
P2293 -- 002 -- Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON

---
Erased the fault again, and no faults appear However, no power...bit coming from low but nothing from med range (lucky to get up to 60 :( )

:(

Please correct me if I am wrong but does this mean my High pressure fuel pump as died?[:@]

fuel pressure regs do cause problems
also check the breather to the top of the head
try taking of the oil filler cap when engine running if it trys to pull the cap back on its the breather

Cheers for the reply.

008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276): Mechanical Malfunction

This is only error code I get which is more than likely telling me my HPFP has died (autotech internals however I don't think its the cause...)

Going to source another pump and go from there - Still driving the car only for work really however no mid or high range with the car. 70 is the limit.

Dave. I don't think it's your HPFP. I'm sure there's a sensor screwed to the side of it. It maybe this.

Ah you mean the thrust sensor, on the left of the HPFP pump (I haven't had time to check it fully to be honest)

I have changed this though and i do have the old one in the garage, could be worth me changing it later after work or tomorrow morning.

Thanks

The pump is priming (you can hear it working but yea I am defin losing power mid/high range as in the pump isn't supplying fuel to the car as I mentioned earlier.)

My made in china vagcom isn't allowing me to monitor the fuel ratio / readings which is annoying otherwise i can provide more date to be checked.

(I'll keep the thread updated so it can help others later on too).

Get an RS4 fuel Pressure reg? that may help?

That isn't related mate, although advice is appreciated (my car will run but struggling to provide fueling so far its all pointing to the pump in the engine bay.

recently done a full service:-

oil change
oil filter
fuel filter (now on rev K instead C)
spark plugs
carbin filter too (be irrevant...lol)

However Sniper I to run a RS4 fuel return valve too

But yea back on the subject.

Day off tomorrow, so I'll buy some tools and remove the pump, check the internals and check the follower aswell (last time I changed it was awhile ago along with the internals).

Stupid Banjo bolt, (need to purchase a spline bit to remove it, I think...)

Update:-

Started to work on the car earlier, had to wait awhile because it was raining a monsoon in wales...but it stoppped eventually.

Had to tap a m8 spline to a 10mm spanner...to remove the banjo bolt (it was annoying...but I got there in the end, at one point I was going to give up because it felt like it was never going in correctly?

Cam follower didn't look too great (last changed when I had the internals uprated @40K and its now near enough 100 almost).

Oh the follower should flat but mine wasn't (scary?) but somehow it hasn't cracked yet...

This cam follower was a rev C and I just happen to another one to replace it aswell.

Now for the insides and the pump...

I have replaced the cam follower and I have also swapped the thrust sensor (older part) on the side of the HPFP pump.

Put everything back together how it was... oiled the o-ring and made sure it was primed etc.

The car is still driving the same sadly :( no improvement.

However when I now step on it, you can hear the pump or something in the engine spraying as you put your foot down but it’s not actually doing anything (rev's do increase and speed aswell but ever slowly?, as if my power has been capped?)

Next plan is to wait for another High pressure fuel pump – but need to wait until after xmas is over (sigh!)

On the same subject...I mite convert my stupid banjo bolt to the rubber hose type along with a stud kit for the HPFP for easier cam follower checks.

Hi Dave C,

I have the exact same problem with my Audi S3.
So you decided to go for a new HPFP?

Cant seem to find a solution for my problem.

Did you get your problem solved?

Can you help ?

Hello there :) (sorry to hear that by the way, same problem).

Yup still driving my car as if it's been capped at 70/80mph.

I was hoping to see if I can resolve today because I ordered another pump but it happens that the pump was a for a FSI engine and not for my TFSI engine...(I wasn't impressed).

However one of the members on here has kindly offered me anew pump and I should recieve this coming saturday.

I am going to remove my current pump and swap the uprated pistons from old to the new replacement (2nd pump).

Hoping this should do the trick.

I don't think there is any issues with the piston part but the N275 Sensor which controls the high pressure fueling.

Also awaiting for some HPFP stud kit to arrive from the states.

I plan on checking the follower often so I don't want to kill the thread so the stud kit will prevent this from happening.

I'll update the post on Saturday to let you know how I get on.

Hi Dave C,

Sounds very much the same as me mate.

Have you checked your Cam follower and the piston etc? Any photos aswell?

It's more than likely your going to need a new High pressure fuel pump!

But check the other things first, By the way changing the follower will not resolve the issue.
