It sounds like the £80 cable is exactly the same as the DHGate one which I bought for around £20. As they both cannot be connected to the Internet at any point or it will destroy the cable. The only genuine cables I'm aware of are direct from Ross-tech

Main thing is it works ok...strange though for a relatively expensive cable that the suppliers claim is licenced and legit...

I received my DHGate cable via HK and got mine working ok too (after d/loading 10.6.3 as there was no software on the min-disc supplied..wtf..!).
I tried the option for disabling the alarm system (alarm and hazards activate randomly..) but it won't let me save the setting.
Can somebody with a working cable on 10.6.3 or 4 try changing this setting for me to see if its just my cable or software..?
I suspect VAG don't want anybody messing with alarm/security settings but would appreciate confirmation from somebody, preferably with a pre f/l model if possible.

Which module is it mate? I'm going to do some logging later today to try and fix an issue I have and I'll try the alarm thing if you like.

I think so. I do have to say that the support from VAG Diagnostics has been great and the cable arrived in 2 days so might be an advantage over getting one from Hong Kong.

Bugger it was a couple weeks ago I tried it..what was the module..?..think it was Cent. Conv. module..is that No. 46 or 48 rings a bell..not sure which byte/bit though. It was definitely one with a long code helper and there were a couple of other alarm related options but none of them would save changes for me, although I did save some other options ok.
I'll have another look myself later as well..

That basically means its a fake version, i had one of these ages ago

One day i thought bugger it i will try to update the software to the newer version and since then the cable hasnt worked


The only way to get live updatable version of VCDS is to buy a real copy of VCDS from a supplier

The point of this post really was to say that I have managed to illuminate the front DRL's (side lights, NOT fogs) without the rear lights coming on
If anyone is interested in doing it as I know it has been discussed many times on different forums, this is how I done it after many many trial and error attempts.

BTW - I am not responsible in any way if you **** up your coding, this is a guide as to how I got mine working so take care.

This for VCDS 10.6.4.
Car - 2010 (October build) CR170 FR

Open VCDS and check the communication with CAN first.

Select Control Module

Select Module 09 - Central Electrics

Select - Coding 07

Click on Byte 15 (or Byte 00 and toggle along with up & down arrows) and tick bit 6 ' Daytime Running Lights (DRL) via seperate Lights active'

Click Exit or red cross or press Esc.

IMPORTANT - Copy the long coding in the original coding box and keep it safe, this will return the car to the original settings should you drop a bollock or this method does not work on your car.

Click Do It.
Click OK (if box says new coding is accepted)

Select - Coding 07

Click on Byte 24 and tick bit 07 at bottom 'Daytime Running Lights (DRL) as Position Lights active'

Check Byte 18 and see what your lights are set to in the drop down menu (forgot to take screenshot), mine were set to Standard set up...not Golf, Tiguan, Tuareg, Altea etc etc


Click Exit or red cross or Esc.
Click Do It
Click OK
Click Close Controller, Go Back
Click Go Back
Click Exit and Exit VCDS

Turn off ignition and unplug lead.

Now then, I have side lights as DRL's on the FRONT ONLY and no bulb warning messages, all other lights function as they should.

If you are in any way uncomfortable with this then DON'T DO IT.


I've also enabled the gauge sweep (very cool) and the alarm chirps when locking / unlocking but removed them after 1 day as they were getting on my tits. This VCDS is a great tool to have.

I'm using 10.6.4 as that's the one that came with my cable. I've not tried any other versions.

Thanks for the guide, its very comprehensive. However, on my 2009 FL FR CR TDI 170 I have tried the settings and the only thing which happens is either having the front side lights on all the time and the rears are on permanently too. Or otherwise no lights on.

Unfortunately it would appear the only way of activating the side lights as DRL's with the rears off would be by amending Byte 18 which I think is a bit hit and miss as to whether it is done wrong.

Hope I'm wrong and there is an easier way but these instructions don't work for me.

Is there anything else you've done or amended byte 18 at anytime?

Are the cables software any good? Has anyone had issues connecting with car or laptop, or tried updating cable for 10.6.5?

Thanks for the guide, its very comprehensive. However, on my 2009 FL FR CR TDI 170 I have tried the settings and the only thing which happens is either having the front side lights on all the time and the rears are on permanently too. Or otherwise no lights on.

Adrian, here is my Byte 18, I didn't change anything.

Try copying my long Byte Code (includes DRL activation, gauge sweep and large speed on MFD), just remember to take note of your original code should something go wrong.

Have you cleared out all the DTC's, this will definitely affect the operation of the modules, especially the lights as I found out the hard way lol, had me confused for a good while??

If this doesn't work then I'm stumped.

The thing with byte 18 on some cars it does not show what the actual value is. For example 00 is just a mask and the real value will be hidden.

When I changed mine the first setting I tried put the indicators and fog lights on all the time.

Total should be £35.72, £6.96 P+P, £7.47 VAT = £50.14

The combination of the strut length along with the end fittings, makes the struts prefect size for size of our standard ones.


I suggest people wait and see how i get on with the 520NM struts, hopefully they will be ok.

Just to clarify Ross the F-SD02-200 opens the boot the same height as Leon OEM?
Still liking the novelty of the fabia strut boot pop however the back of my head isnt to keen on it

I got my cable from there and works perfectly with my FL Cupra. Send them an email mate. They respond really quickly.
